Massive Flat Black truck I painted!!!!

This is a continuation of my other thread if you missed it. Look here--> http://canadianponcho.activeboard.com/t45998465/some-people-have-to-much-moneyor-im-too-old/

Turned out way better then I expected it to look. It's a beast of a truck with it's 8 inch lift and 24 inch rims. This thing is massive and epic looking. I thought it woulddnt look that good but I was mistaken.

Unfortunatly I never got the photo op I was hopping for so this is all I have for pics right now. From what I heard it will be back soon for bigger brakes and engine mods so i'll get better ones then.

Look at it compared to this dumpster. I can't see into that bin and the hood is taller. Huge truck.

Hey Paul, if you don't mind me asking, what was the final tab on it?

Not sure what the final bill was. On my end I belive it was around $7000. That was a very good deal considering it was about 80 hours labor and $1100 in paint. But he bought the truck new from the dealership I work at for around $60,000+. Pretty sure all said and done he was into it for close to $100,000.

Looks great Paul, 'NICE JOB"!!!!! Getting back to the cost, you said $1100 for the paint???How much is that per Gal. or whatever,What else was in that material estimate. I wanted to paint the 52 in Satin Black [or the like] but wholly "BAT CRAP" thats pretty "steep" or am I just out of touch with reallity. Haven't painted much lately other than the trailer & a gal.of reg. black was around $70 [ Metal Pro ] from NAPA

At my shop we use Sikkens paint. A premium paint line. I think it's the best paint out there right now and ive sprayed lots of diffrent kinds. (PPG is my second fav, Sherwin Williams is only good for barns and beeters.) So this is about as expencive as it gets for paint. It got 3 coats of jet black basecoat and 2 coats of %80 Matt UV/%20 Auto clear superior. I probably also used $100 in sandpaper and $20-40 in masking supplies. No body work or primer was needed for this job.

On a side not I painted a 92 Grand Cherokee matt black on wednesday night with Paint a friend supplied(cant remember the name right now) But it cost $50 to paint the whole truck. It was hard to spray and looks kinda like black primer. No bad but not great. I'll get a pic of it this week end.

Nice thing about the base/clear way is it could have been any color...or multiple colors with matt clear over it.

Very nice job indeed. The Big Three would be wise to offer a "Rat Rod" painted version of certain new vehicles. Camaro, SRT Challenger, Shelby Mustang, etc. would all look cool in this format.

It did turn out nicer than I had expected. Good work.......but I won't be rushing my GOAT over for this treatment anytime soon.

I'm contemplating doing my next project car in a matt finish now...It kinda grew on me. Not black though. Maybe two tone silver and electric blue.

Next you can do an old WWII Dodge Power Wagon in olive drab. A canopy goes well with it. And a Jerry can, shovel...
