Another amazing CP friendship story...

... As if there aren't enough of them!

I hope this story makes sense. I'm pretty tired from a late night last night following a plane ride home from 6 days in Las Vegas (business, very little leisure time, NO gambling!)

A while back I posted up an ad looking for parts to "3-pedal" my new 66 Grande Parisienne.

http://canadianponcho.activeboard.com/t46123454/65-66-b-body-manual-trans-pedals-wanted/

A couple of indivuals who posted in that thread (they shall remain nameless but they are both from the province west of me!!!) took it upon themselves to help me out. I came home from Las Vegas to find a large box had arrived in the mail. No return address, nuttin'...

I open it up and there is a complete clutch and brake pedal set with z bar, rods, brackets, nuts, bolts, springs, you-name-it all in the box!!!

I called one of the anonymous "green" guys to say  thank you and what do you want for it. The reply?? Make a donation to Canadian Poncho that you feel is appropriate...

HOW COOL IS THAT????

I wish those guys could have seen the look on my face. No lie, my daughter asked if something was wrong when she saw the look!!!!

For the record, one of the two individuals involved I have met, the other one I've never met. Between the two of them, they've done me so many favours it will be hard to repay them in this short lifetime!

Amazing but true, what a nice gesture.

It got me thinking though we almost can't call these stories amazing anymore because they are getting to be Normal around here. What a great place.

There is nothin' worst than trying to surprize a guy and then it takes another few days after the package was picked up for them to open it... There is an ora of snickering about them getting it and then there is nothing but "????" why thay haven't said anything about it....

Only thing is is that these are out of a '65 Biscayne.... Are they the same??? (lol) Truge my way through the snow, uphill both ways, get all I need, I thought, come home, bag and itemize the small parts and then see a listing for an item in my book I didn't get... The clutch pedal bumper stop.. Back to the car, uphill both ways again, dive under the dash and grab it....Back home again....

Then you have to almost break the surprize by asking via PM if they received anything... Plus PM a few other people here asking them not to look or help out in any way by fibbing here and there and posting a that fib online to discourage Carl from getting them somewhere else! It took a lot of work!

I purposely left out a return address but insured it in case it got lost... Then I added signature required for pick up only to have it signed and picked up by someone other that the person I addressed it to! I was going to call Canada Post, and still will, to give them heck for allowing that!

As he said, I sent everything required except the ball stut for assembly plus a list of those items sent! (for reference in case he forgot how to assemble...!!!)

If anything, he can play in his car with pedals installed till the engine and tranny are added at a later date!!!

 wink

Oh, I think I can likely figure out how to install them!

If I can build my own clutch and brake pedals for a 94 Impala SS and put in a 6 speed in a weekend, I should be able to knock this one off too!

I think it will end up being a 4 speed small block car by next spring. Too many other projects in line to get the big block built and installed this winter.

Not yet, but I've already been planning the cleaning, blasting, painting, etc before the installation. I may even do a bunch of the install right here at home up to the point where I pull the 'Glide out. I can drive it still with a small brake pedal until the trans is swapped.

I just have to look which ball I need for the Z bar. I think I have one here "in stock"! Already have bellhousing, flywheel, trans. Also have a bench seat shifter handle, just gotta find a shifter and linkage but those are repro. I think I finally sold out of shifters a few years ago. I used to have a box with about 5 or 6 stock shifters and linkage!

Hey, I think I just remembered who has shifter for me and he happens to be a CP member.......

Looking like it could be a one evening/all next day project over the Christmas season some time.

Picture of above mentioned setup. The neat thing is, I won't be scrounging for the little hardware. It's all there.
