good carb for my french mouse

so i've got a 64 parisienne. shes a cruiser, 4 door hardtop, 283 n powerglide. come with a 2gv, nice workin carb. but, i like a four barrel. im keepin the motor nostalgic, with finned aluminum valve covers, a cal kustom scoop, white rams horns, and i just found a sweet streetmaster intake. great find! get to keep my oil fill tube. if anybody on the forum is experienced enough to remember edelbrocks streetmaster, whats a decent street level four barrel for her? intake'll take square n spread bore carbs.

Franz, I prefer the Edelbrock carb, either Performer or Thunder series w/elect. choke, 500 to 550 Cfm for your engine size!!! Holly will work as well [same CFM] worst thing you can do is to "GO BIG" I've had great luck with the Edelbrock's, almost no adj. right out of the box, other than idle adj. Have 2 550's Thunder series, on the the 358 SBC in 52, & 2 Carter AFB's [almost the same carbs] on the 64 Catalina 389. Haven't touched the 64 Carbs in over 8 yrs. Have "progressive" linkage on both cars, only run on back carb. till you "PUNCH" it. You should get good milage & performance if you don't "over Carb. it" but a "CAM" would also help. Don't know where your located as it doesn't say in your BIO. Pete

thanks for the tips, pete! mighty helpfull lol a cam had come into question, but the way she rattles in stock form reminds me its a Kustom, not a rod. i've heard many a horror story about excess cfm, and know by now the q-jet feeding my mild 350 rocket will be WAY to much. I live in winnipeg, by the way. as soon as i read the sticky on posting pics ill upload some, ive got a few on my facebook. shes a  salmon pink parisienne, with a white roof and black on black interior, very minty shape for 2 Gs.

I agree with Dualquadpete. You won't go wrong if you follow that advice. With a basically stock engine like you have, most carbs in that size range should be close or right on right out of the box.
He also mentioned a cam. As long as you have the manifold off it's not that big of a job to change the cam too.
By the way, you can sometimes get a good deal on carbs that have been re manufactured by Edelbrock. I've had a few of these carbs and they've always been as good as new. I think most of them are probably new carbs that were returned because they weren't proper for the engine they were put on.

I would put a RV "bump stick" [CAM] in that, good low end 1500 RPM to about 5500 RPM not too crazy, just enough cam to work with the 4 bbl. & a nice set of Duals [if you don't already have them] & let it "BREATHE"

AND you can install new lifters AND replace the Timing chain

AND while your there, get some new rad hoses,

AND replace the RED heater hoses

        AND get rad flushed......

AND while the Dist is out, check the cap and rotor, wires etc wink

good cap, fresh plugs, points n condensor(set properly, gap and dwell!). chrome mallory coil. probably still a single roller chain, i havent dug into her block yet. when spring rolls around again, yes she'll get duals, with porter steelpacked mufflers :) AND, i allready painted her rams horns white. i mostly just like a good sound, with decent mileage and reliability out of this one.
