66 Pontiac power locks

I thought I'd start a new thread about these since the "wrecking yard" thread was derailing (as we often do here!)

Anyway, I posted up on a US Pontiac forum and should have a picture of the vacuum power lock switch and it's location in a day or two, thanks to a Bonneville owner there.

That's a great idea. I'd like to take it one step further and have a new thread pertaining to each option for simplicity sake.

If someone would be willing to donate a 66 Pontiac cluster to the cause, I'd like to get one with the connector and a few inches of wire harness snipped off. I would do up a complete thread on converting from idiot lights in a Canadian cluster, converting a Canadian car to a US cluster with gauges.

Oh, that I already have. I was lucky enough to find a set of the 70 only power lock switches (electric) years ago in a wrecking yard. I've saved them a long long time for the right car. I think I found that car now!

And yes, I've had a car with vacuum locks and much prefer the electric setup.

You can always spend $69 each and buy 2 repro lock switches that are the right style if you are stuck though.

They look like twins.

Give me a few minutes, I'll post a pic.

Oh, wait, never mind. I'll check ebay. There is a guy selling them on there usually, reproduction that is.

I take back the twins quote. They are square, whereas the vacuum lock switch is a rectangle. I think I learned something again tonight!

I won't tell on you if you won't tell on me!!!

And make sure we don't let Ken (66GrandeGuy) find out!

.......well they do have similar style bezels so could pass for originals, and no one will know the difference anyway except a real die hard pontiac man . Good to know so I will watch for them at the swap meets etc. I will probably try convert my vac ones when I get there some day. Thanks 4 the pic.

Those 70 switches are real tough to find and real expensive if you do. Best just to buy repro I am thinking.

I have looked and looked for one of those. Never have seen one in a wreck yet. Sooner or later....

I need to somehow find out what power trunk will fit. I want to go electric. I am guessing a 67-68 may work.

Come to think of it, I have an electric piece from who knows what...

May have to try it.

No, I am pretty sure it was a little black push button with two vacuum ports on the back. The button would be maybe 5/16" diameter and sticks out maybe 3/8" or so.

No, it's much different than that. I think I might have one but seeing I've been sitting at the computer here since last year it's time for bed!

I'll take a peek for it a different day if you don't mind waiting.

I'm the same, I love learning this stuff.

I came here 4 years ago thinking that since I've done 66's since I was 18 years old that I knew everything about them. I've likely doubled my knowledge on them since I came here, with no end in sight!!!

pontiac plates 204.jpgSorry, should've posted this pic too. Bought the car from a scrap collector who had to see what was in the trunk. You saw the 66 Biscayne  last time you were here, same story.

Similar switch except I think on mine the vacuum ports are straight out instead of 90 degrees.

Perfect! You're set for power locks. Great find, one year only switches. I have no idea what power trunk interchangability there is with 66 though.

I'd get those switches inside to make sure they stay in good shape.

Ken, do you think this one looks the same as the one you pictured? I saw one like this in a wrecking yard recently.
