I made up a piece of1/2" pipe about 6" long for getting the rods into the hooks on hinge brkt. worked great on the 64 Catalina & a 63 Impala!!! a LOT OF TENSION ON THEM & YOU DON'T WANT THEM "POPPING" OUT OF VISE GRIPS

I use a half inch deep socket with an extension bar on it, has always work well for me.
