I'm not trying to start anything here but I notice in the title Mercury Meteor, the ad however says Meteor.
I was at a cruise in one night and said to the owner that's a nice Mercury ...lo and behold I got the same reaction that some Beaumont owners have when you call their car a Pontiac. Man did I ever get schooled on it NOT being a Mercury.

I love it, Its UGLY like me and not a belly button....I have owned many of those when I was a kid.... That car has ME all over it....I want it.....Great find Todd
I havn't seen a 1961 Meteor in person since 1975 in Hamilton, and even then it was an unusual sight. I have seen a bunch of 1960 models since, but no 61s. As you can see it is really a 61 Ford with a few cheap to accomodate tweaks, sold at Mercury dealers. Meanwhile at the Ford dealers things were in the final year of the Monarch Lucerne, a Mercury with some unique styling including a crown in the grille.
That Meteor has a 223 six and likely a 2-speed Merc-O-Matic. I think engine choices were 223, 292 V8 & 352 V8. Through about 1964 the only choices were 223, 352 & 390.
I like it for a couple of reason. It is a rare sight, it appears to be very solid, and it is a unique Canadian car.

I don't judge a man by how far he's fallen, but by how far back he bounces - Patton
That's a cool cheap car! I like the white, the chrome, and the vintage plates.

In 61, fairlane and galaxie were on the same frames-the downsizing of fairlanes came in 62. So yes, it is a full size model. This car looks very similar to the fairlane, which in turn for 61 looked pretty similar to the galaxie. Those rear lens' look phenomenal-good luck finding any more if you ever broke one!
Man i can't believe he put his dealer sticker on it, just urks me to do that on an old car. Assuming it is the dealer, same guy had 2 72 T-Birds a few years ago he was trying to sell, apparently they were sequential off the assembly line.
I had one of these for the winter of '76. Rusty with a 3 on the tree. Think I paid $200 for it. Drove it to Cathcart Auto Wreckers in the spring. It still ran great but wasn't worth fixing the body. Back then Meteors were almost as popular as Pontiac's in Canada and plenty cheap to buy for a beater. Always seemed the both of them "upscale" new models were cheaper used than Ford or Chev.....maybe just more of them around?
thats a cool car, very odd, i still have my dads 65 meteor 9 passenger wagon that me old dad bought new at brown brothers ford in burnaby, white with a red int and a 352 bb , it has 80,000 miles on it and still in fairly good shape,
