My sister found a couple of photos of my Dad's 77 Lemans Sport Coupe. He bought it in 1980. It was so clean it was in the dealers showroom. I learned to drive in this car in 1984. My dad got sick that year so I was kind of thrown into the driving responsibilities quite quickly as my mom was usually too stressed out to drive. I drove this car in many a snow storm with just my beginners license. It held up well thanks to regular oil spraying. It was repainted around 1990 and I believe these photos were taken not long after. I remember being upset with the body side mouldings the body shop installed!
This LeMans had the Chevy 350/4bbl auto trans.
You'll notice the steering wheel rim is quite dark. My dad was a lithographer prior to his stroke and the ink on his hands often got on the wheel. I tried everything to clean it up without much success.
My wheel was dark too. Original owner was a tin knocker so I guess it was grease and oil instead of ink.
I used Comet and a brush and it brought the wheel and seats back to look like brand new. I made sure to wash it off the seats several times so the bleach in the Comet didn't eat away the stitching.
