Something in the back of my head says all 73 regular 455 Trans Ams were 4 speeds. Anyone else?

Nope, in 1973 you gould get either an M21 or an M40 (TH400). In 1971/72 they came only with the 455 H.O. & either an M22 Muncie or TH400. For 1973 the SD-455 was very late getting to market & the 455 H.O. had been discontinued, so the regular L75 455 was the standard engine. Usually the L75 was automatic-only, but in 1973 they were offered with a manual trans.
For 1974 the L78 400 was made standard and was offered with either the M21 Borg-Warner Super T-10 or the TH400; the L75 455 was automatic only. The SD-455 was back in limited numbers with the same M21 or M40 as the previous year.
For 1975 only the L78 400 was offered until late in the year, when the regular L75 455 returned to the option list using only the M21 Borg-Warner (using 455 H.O. callouts, which it was not.). 1978 offered the same drivetrains as 1975, but the 455 was simply labelled as a 455, not an H.O.

I'm thinking in your last sentence you mean 1976, not 1978?
Hmm, wonder where I got that crazy idea about 4 speed only on the 455's in 73 I'll have to do some reading.
