I'm thinking of putting belts in the 52 but concerned as to how "safe" they would REALLY be??? After mrkt. belt Inst. kit just has large washers to go on bottom side of floor pan. Am I "foolin" myself & wife thinking this will hold up in a accident??? floor brace is nowhere near where belts would have to fit!!! Janice said she won't feel safe riding in car with NO BELTS!!!  Me, it doesn't bother, as a kid we never had them in family car back then, survived a few accidents [ rear ended once & dad lost the brakes on a rental 58 chevy, & plowed onto the car ahead of us on Hwy. 47 near Uxbridge] got thrown around the inside but never outside!!!

i put belts in my '61, used the large oval washer/nuts that are spot welded to the underside of the floors, out of a '80ish cutlass

Pete i would not go a foot of distance in any of my cars without seat belts, it is not worth playing russian roulette with your life. I have put new after market seat belts in my 57 Pontiac that look like the original ones that were offered in 1957. The washers are huge, they are about 2.5 inches in outer diameter. I can not see these tearing through the floor in any way. I suppose if a car had a very rust floor then it would be an issue. The actual belt material is of todays standards by law, the rest of the belts look 1950's original. I suppose in your case you would not care if they looked period correct. Pete do your self and your wife a favour and put belts in your your 52 Pontiac. Without them you might get a hell of a head ache. Cheers. George.

I drove the 64 for 5 or 6 yrs. w/o seat belts, hate the dam things & once you put them in you have to wear it!! but to keep "Happy wife ,happy life' I "FOLDED" & installed them! Had many "discussions with police officers b-4 that as to why I didn't have my "belt" on??? I allways said 'you find it I;ll wear it"!!! I guess I'll have to do the "washer' thing [52 has all new floors] but still don't like the idea of floor "TIN" only!!!
