66 Grande gone for the big paint job!

66 TO PAINT.JPGToday we loaded the more or less rust repaired beast onto the trailer in absolutely crappy weather and took her down the road to meet the tin basher/paint dauber.

Hes seems to know his onions (as they say)  as he has been a journeyman since 1968 so this is right up his alley.

He already told me the original hood is badly warped but I already kind of knew that as I  had gotten too enthusiastic with the sandblaster one day and figured what the heck could it hurt just to touch it lightly?  Bad Decision!!!!

Luckily I scavenged the hood off my fathers old 66 Parisienne as a spare so he should be able to make it work.   I will post progress pictures as it goes if they don't scare me too much.

Great stage to be at there Ken. Looks like you had to put green shades on it for it to see the light of day.

Oh, wow, good for you Ken. I am itching to see that car done...

Big step leaving someone your car and then just waiting for them to tell you to start paying!

Thanks for the comments guys!   It will be the orginal colour which is Lemonwood yellow which I tried as a test on the front beak and valence.

I will be phoning the guy everyday like a kid in the back seat saying, Are we there yet?  Are we there yet?

Hopefully done by the end of May after which time I need to replace trim, wiring, put the interior back into it, wheels and tires and away we go!

The way it looks is I  may get a bit of the summer/fall to drive it and then I'll have to twitch impatiently all winter. (or sell it if its a real disaster, heh, heh)

I don't have a windshield on it at the moment.  That actually will likely be one of the last things I put on after I get the dash and wiring all sorted out.

Weather much better today but yesterday we kind of had arrangments to drop on off and pick one up so we had to go.

Heres what we brought back for my 17 year old nephew.  Boy, i don't know about this one but it will keep him off the streets for quite while.

Its a 36 Chev one ton. Also ran across a couple of others but not for sale, too bad.

I'd like to say the car is sitting in my yard ready to get shipped out but it was next the the old chev truck in the yard of the guys that we brought the truck from.  i took the photo opp.

They have a pile of old neat stuff of which only some is for sale.

This isnt for sale as far as i know.  It is a custom sport 4 speed i believe but it has no tranny or engine in it. Not bad body and interior and is sitting on a concrete pad so it isn't melting away.

Thats all I know now.

If I ever hear that the stuff in that yard is getting sold off I'll be sure to let you know!  Any idea how many 64 four speed cars there would have been?

My plan is to mooch off each and every one of the guys on this forum on my next cross country trip!  That would involve sleeping in your driveway/yard and drinking your or my beer or/or coffee.  Also would involve tossing the keys at you and saying, "Drive it like you stole it!"  (Of course I will be in the passenger seat clutching at the the grab handle and reaching for the ignition switch!)

I hope my wife is in for the seven or eight years (and multiple tire changes) it'll take to get from end to end!

OK! It's  finally back after a long series of progessively more threatening phone calls (Sort of kidding, kind of)   I have to say I got what I told the guy i wanted  a driver quality paint job.

A fair bit of orange peel that will get buffed out to a large degree, a couple of still noticable ripples but to me its beautiful!

I still don' t have the hood and have no time to mount the bumpers or anything else yet except for bolting on the front wheels (the rears are old airholders) and sticking on the rally wheel trim.

I have to go away for about a week to fight a few last forest fires so i won't be able to do anything else for a while but I thiought I'd give you a peek.

Here ya go boys.

You're making me puke Ken (out of pure jealousy....)

I absolutely LOVE that colour on there. That and the GP spinners on the rally caps is pure creative genius.

Thanks for posting pictures. Now I'm gonna go sit in a corner for the rest of the night and pout that my 66 is such a piece of junk in comparison.
