Well, theres definately one less around because we wrecked one out about 15 years ago that had been T-boned and the insurance company wrote it off. It was a factory 327-300 h.p., 4 spd. Dark blue ext with med. blue int.

I don't know the number and would be interested in finding out. One thing though, all 4-speeds for these cars were Muncie-built and were available on 327 250-horse on up through the top 409s. Further to that, all manual transmission 327 and larger engines engines that year (1964) were 4-speed only (they dropped the 3-speed offering of previous years). Not all 409s were manual transmission equipped, the 340-horse version offered a h.d. Powerglide as well.

DID you notice if it had the holes on the right side of the dash for a tach?

The impala uses the engine turned insert, whereas the custom sport is a brushed satin finish. It has been ther for many a year I agree, probably done in the 60's Very cool regardless!!

I think Beaumontbill bought my friends 409 4 speed-if I remember correctly the paperwork from GM Canada was like 6 or something-very very rare.It was a 4 speed 409 car-tilt wheel power windows and a tach-can't quite remember.

Its kind of interesting how the vast majority of Canadian cars were really bread and butter cars and the ones with the interesting (AKA expensive) options were so few and far between.  I would guess most of them must have been ordered as demos knowing that the average customer would love it but go cheaper once he talked to the wife or was ordered by  the very occasional guy that actually knew what he wanted and had the money to pay for it.

I talked to a retired RCMP officer a few years ago who ordered a 425 horse 4 speed 1966 Grande Parisenne when he got his first posting and then had to cancel the order when he found out what he actually was going to get paid

Canadians in the 60's weren't  quite busting out with dough or credit yet I guess.

I bought a new 64 cs 409, 425hp. Aubrey said there were 10 to 15 409s built in 64, only 2 were 425hp.
I own a 4sp one now.

It is also my understanding that there were thirty 340hp 409 engines in 1964.

The one in the pic above is an auto, not a 4 speed.

Back in the mid to late `80's my friend James had a `64 Custom Sport 327 4 spd.,... white with black bucket seat interior, console shift. I don't know which 327 it had (it was hopped up when he bought it, intake, cam and he added headers) or if it was even the original engine. He slid into a curb sideways and crinkled the passenger quarter and may have shifted the rear end over a tick as well. He sold it somewhere in Alberta shortly after,.... never realised how rare it was until much later.

It was very rare to see a 4 speed Pontiac (full size) back in the day. Unless it was a Power Glide car changed over to a stick like my old one was. It was a 3 speed with an after market shifter. There just wasn't many 4 speed trans. available and when you found one ,it cost as a much as I usually paid for the car.
