Steering Box and Pump Rebuilder

Hi:  Just found a business in Markham that rebuilds steering boxes and pumps.   I had contacted 400 auto wreckers for a used box and they recommend Ken at Custom Steering Gear.  He is located at 187 Steelecase Road W in Markham.    Just west of Woodbine a block or two north of Steeles.   905-475-5533

When I got there the place was full of parts lying about and many Chevy items on the walls ... 

I chatted with Ken for a while and he certainly knows his stuff.  I found him to be very knowledgeable and pricing was within the range I had been looking for.

I took my old steering box and 2 old pumps to him.  Ken offered me a casting fee for the one extra old pump.  He is going to redo the box with the faster ratio.  He has had much experience rebuilding pumps and described the process necessary to get the resulting ratio that I wanted.  It will be a 12:1 ratio.  He said that he could build one that had a 10:1 ratio but only recommended that for a stock car racing application.

I'll be watching this closely Cliff to see how it turns out.

I'd like to do 12:1 with mine, but want the original internal stops that you probably won't get with an aftermarket performance box.

Will Keep you posted....

I bought an aluminum rad and a high output water pump from Performance Improvements during their midnight madness sale. I also had sitting in my trunk the complete eurothane bushing kit for the front end.

The car is going to the shop of Friday for the good doctor to administer some upgrades along with the steering box and pump.

I got the brake issue sorted out and all is well in that department.

How's your car coming along....

Pete: Not hiding, just working a little too much. pushing 70 this year.

Have to keep working in order to keep the wheels turning.

June 1st wife and I are booked into a London Hotel to attend Plunkets extravaganza. Went last year and had a great time.

CanadiaPontiac    You mean you really want me to look at the bills again.   I hid them away...

Will try to get photos at the shop as things progress. 

The rad is supposed to be a direct fit.  Ill finish this post and scoot down to the car to see what details I can pick out.

66 Grande Parisienne, 2dr HT, 327 4bbl, Auto.

Had the 66 since about 83 and the 65 since 88.
Both still require a lot of work.

I will have some time Friday to snap a few photos of the finished product.

 

Still not 100 percent happy with the system as I have seen 230 while idling on a hot day.  Stopped for about 5 minutes.

 

Solution may be put fans in front of the rad.

 Have you checked that your gauge is accurate? I use an Infrared temp tool.

 

A fan shroud will help a lot.
