As I recall, the limiting factor on 1977 Can Am production was a breakdown of the machine that was manufacturing the rear spoiler components.
I wonder how hard it would be to redo a run of rear spoilers? I mean, they are only fiberglass after all. Ya, that's the ticket, a run of 1972 GTO ducktail spoilers and 1977 Can Am spoilers.

Insiders say the real reason for cancelling the Can Am was because it was taking parts and production attention away from the highly succesful 1977 Grand Prix. Take your pick, broken spoiler mould or using too many Grand Prix interiors both sound like BS to me.
