Just a little more help needed for my 52

well i got the car saftied today and ready for insurance, i went to get some fuel (thanks gm for the nozzel not fitting in nicely lol). Nice that it was lunch time and a young junior high kid came over and says " Thats a f'n sick car, is it a 43¿" i said thanks bud, corrected the young lad on the year and told him it still needs lots of work but when i went to leave...........nothing, pushed the button and it only cranked, let it sit for 20mins then it started. drove home, shut her down and tried to restart......... nothing again. let it sit for 40mins pulled the cap off and it looks brand new, just a bit of black that i wiped off with my finger, the rotor looked the same but i sanded the tip lightly to het it clean. the car fired right up. i let it run for 30mins, shut her down and it started 4 times in a row so i went for a drive around the "big block" came home shut it off and it r started 3 times while hot but then nothing.......... i can smell fuel from the exhaust but the car does not try to fire. the coil looks to be brand new too and was warm to the touch but not too hot, i cooled it down with a cold cloth but still did not start. any help and tips on what to try from all of you guys would be greatly appriciated. p.s. i do have ignition power at the distributor and coil. confuse

Get a timing light and connect it on the coil big wire. Sometimes a unplug cable can spark but can't spark when connected. You will be directed on the issue, gas or spark.

The electricity between your battery and the coil (loom, switches, loom again, distributor, coil ) can be lost partially due to old wire. Mesure the voltage to the coil + side you MUST have the same battery voltage while cranking. If not try with a jumper, if it start everytime, a good repair of the wiring is important. Don't forget, 6 volts work very fine (if yours is) but sensible on the wire quality.

Do you have the proper plugs Chris (heat range). They could be fouling.

I'm gonna say it might be "vapour" locking after sitting & heat sink sets in, boiling out the gas in carb. & fuel pump can't pump past it??? Next time it won't start, look down the top of carb. & give it a pump on linkage, see if the accelerator pump in carb squirts a shot??

I agree it could be vapour lock.

those car/engine are not prone to vapour lock, unless the pump/carb system had been modified, the vapour lock is 99% not the issue.

Thanks guys, my car is all stock with 6 volts still, it does seem to be getting fuel. I'm also thinking it could be an electrical issue as it does not start at all now. It seemed to be a hard starter when cold, if it warms up for 15 mins and I go to resart it will fire right up without touching the gas peddle. It starts better on warm days. It seemed that after running for 45mins it wouldn't restart. Does some one have part numbers for what I would need for the points, rotor, plugs, cables (as I noticed these are poorly custom made ones). The battery is older so i will replace that as well. I just want to drive this Poncho but she just wants to stay put.

check and see if you have real wire spark and coil wires or if they are carbon, when it gets hot the carbon tend to not work as well as real wire

Thanks Al, i did notice after i posted that all wires were carbon, i remade new real wire cables and she starts all the time. she is still a  hard starter when cold but what can i expect from a 6volt carb system from the 50's. pump the gas 4 times.
