Can you post up a picture of the diff cover on your car?

Generally the 1972 Lemans used an 8.5" rear, but the clue here is that it is an Oshawa-built car with a Chevy 350. In that case it is more like a Chevelle in terms of drivetrain, and 1972 they were still using the 8.2" 10-bolt rears in Chevelles & 8.875" 12-bolt for the 350 4-barrel, Big Block & Trailering axle cars. The 8.5" was phased into the 1972 Chevelle run quite late in the 1972 production.
If you want a good limited slip carrier that will be rebuildable in the future, get an Eaton unit.
Attached are a couple of comparison pictures that I liberated from the Internet about 9 years ago. See if you can figure which one you have based on the pictures.

I can't prove it because the car is long gone but I am quite sure my memory is correct when I say my mom's Chevelle she bought new in December 71 ( 1972 model) had an 8.5" However, I can't say 100% for sure.

rarechev, that would be to amazing i would sure be greatfull, im having a rough time getting use to the forum ,for how to send emails back and forth so heres my# 289-988-6222 and out of those 3 diff pics mine looks like the 8.5 cover but does not have the ears on the bottom of the pumkin, where the red arrows are pointing, so i dont know if its a 8.2 chev / or 8.2 BOP
yes i will take a pic of both rear ends, the first one the guy charged me $300 bucks for it thats the one i was told AFTER i bought it that its for a camaro type car or a leaf sring car, the second one a different guy wanted $400 but i got it for $350 and its for a coil spring car but some one said the guy welded his own perches on and that they wont fit my car ei, im not sure how to put the pics on the forum but i will find a way , maybe with some help if needed
thanks again "rarechev",where and when can i pay you and where can i pick it up, because of you i will be able to get rid of this one wheel peel after all,
The housing in the picture is for a multileaf application not a coil spring/trailing arm as required in your car. It appears to be an 8.5. You can confirm by poping of the back cover. The bolts for the crown gear will have a "L" on them for a 8.5" for left hand thread. No factory exceptions. 8.5 were used in 1/2 tons as well. My guess is that the diff is from a 70's Camaro/Firebird.
What does the second diff look like as well as the one under your car right now. Pic's please.
Also if you can measure overall width and spring perch dimensions we can verify if the diff is a second gen F body or a much more valuable early 70's Nova 8.5 10 bolt as it would be a direct bolt in to a first gen F body.

this rear the guy said its from a 71 chevelle , maybe so but the perches are way different then mine, but i know this 8.5 posi is a 2:73 ring gear for sure, and i would let this go for $200, i will loose a $150 on it but im sure some one can at least use the carrier or axle's and gears who know's, wont fit mine either
This is a BOP rear cover/differential. All three of your pictures show the Chev 10 bolt. Before throwing in the towel I would pull the cover off of one in the car. I presume the one with the blue cover. By checking the crown bolts you will be able to instantly identify what you have. Also by rotating the crown gear the gear ratio will be visible. There will be a part number and a number something like 48:11. I would pop the cover off of the Chevelle diff that's the one with the funky home made spring perches and confirm if it truly is a 2.73 or maybe a 3.08 rear gear. If it's a 3.08 then it is a 3 series carrier and is more desireable.
I can go on and on but what you will need to do is pull the rear covers off and look and see what you have.
