There's too many questions that could be answered with a little investigative work regarding this car.If I was the owner/seller,I'd 've done the due diligence to get all the appropriate info up front as to not leave any room for speculative questions especially with the most common mistake is the alternator bracket where it is-Dah!!Definitely a transplant. No tach dash, fan shroud and thinks it's a M22,that's a no brainer again.M22's usually came with the solid lifter engines(L72's).And to not know if it's a #'d car or not, with all the hype/information on where to "find" these #'s you'd have to pretty well be living in a cave or under a rock for the last 25 or so years.Personally I have my doubts that it "is" a big block car.My opinion of course and not to offend anyone.

Add says 'clear title in info then you get "smacked' with no title in description!!! Agree Brian, no title no sale, especially trying to cross the border, have to bring in as a parts car!!! Then it's DONE for ever going back on the road!!!!

I'd say it's a non-numbers matching car.   68 still had the alternator on the drivers side.

No high hood etc and looks like an Impala SS w/ factory 427 at best w/ added trunk lid emblem, not an original SS427 car.
VIN 164878Y178718
Wimington DE plant build so no docs available like Canadian built cars but still worth a closer look at details to see what it really was as being a '68 it could even be an L72 car!
Car sold in June 2012 for $4000.

cars could be ordered with 427 engines but not the Z24 option that gave you the hood , rear emblem and other things

It looks like it is a Z03 Super Sport that somebody added the SS427 grille & trunk emblems onto. Probably a Big Block transplant car. You never know, it could have come with a factory 396. I have even heard of a Z03, non Z24 (SS427) Impala with a factory L36 427. On the car in question I can't tell if it is a short or long water pump, but the long pump came in for '69. For all we know it could be a Suburban 454 dropped in. Not that it is a bad thing; it is a BBC after all. The woodgrain trim on the instrument panel is from a Caprice but the Super Sport glovebox emblem looks right.

You know, back in 1968/69 there was a 1968 Impala Custom Coupe I used to pass every day coming home from school. Back in 1968 it was a fake SS, having 1965/66 Super Sport fender scripts in place of the Impala Custom fender namplates. It had been repainted tangerine orange, but it was no street rod. It otherwise was a stocker with whitewalls, wheelcovers, black vinyl roof, & either a 307 or 327 (too long ago... I was in grade 1 at the time.) It was a couple of years before I saw a correct 1968 Impala Super Sport with the correct namplates in the grille, trunk & fenders & having the correct interior.

Definitely a long style water pump with that type of extra casting on the driver's side. The short pump had no casting on it for power steering pump provisions like this one has.

Yes long water pump has the alternator on the pass. side and it could be any one of the Rat family motors.Casting #'s will tell the story.
