'61 2 dr. Biscayne driver for $1900

http://alberta.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-classic-cars-1961-Chevrolet-Biscayne-W0QQAdIdZ409318914

Would it be better to just drive it, restore it or clone it? I'm thinking a 348 sure would look good in there

Looks good the way it is, if the frame and floors are useable.

Should be good underneath if it's a 'true" western car. BOY some of these sellers sure don't give much info in description. You'd think they are paying by the word. "6 stick, runs good"

THIS SEEMS TO COME UP OFTEN, YOU WON'T GET ANYTHING MORE BUYING ANY CAR IN ALBERTA. THAT'S JUST HOW THEY'RE SOLD HERE. YOU CAN USE A FORMAL BILL OF SALE FORM FROM THE REGISTRIES OFFICE, A HAND-WRITTEN BILL OF SALE, OR SIGN THE BACK OF THE REGISTRATION SLIP(IF AVALIBLE). WHICH EVER YOU CHOOSE, THEY ARE ALL CONSIDERED A BILL OF SALE, OR "LEGAL OWNERSHIP" PAPERS. I FAIL TO UNDERSTAND WHY THIS IS SUCH AN ISSUE FOR PEOPLE FROM OTHER PROVINCES. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT OTHER PROVINCES WOULD NOT ACCEPT THOSE. HAS A CAR FROM ALBERTA EVER BEEN REJECTED SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR NOT HAVING PAPER WORK THAT SIMPLY DOES NOT EXSIST IN ALBERTA. WHAT AM I MISSING HERE?confuse IS ALBERTA THE BLACK HOLE OF AUTOMOBILES, ONCE THEY ARE HERE THEY CAN NEVER LEAVE?

it can be done as long as the car is from a province or state that doesnt use ownership/titles for old cars. The MTO is familiar with which places do not, it only becomes an issue when it should have an actual ownership and does not. There are still ways it can be done but it requires a sworn paper saying its been lost (my friends model A) it took a couple trips  to the Mto but it worked out fine.  Also imported a car last year from a state that doesnt use titles for old cars (new york state prior to 1972 ish no titles) . It was slight problem exiting the usa, but once they realized it was a non title state it was fine. No issues on our side, they just needed a bill of sale for the tax money.

Good winter beater!  biggrin

Seriously, I agree with get it running and drive it!  Most would probably want to make a 409 clone out of it, but I'm a fan of plain base cars.  Would be nice fixed up cosmetically a little but otherwise keep as is.

i beleive the rules now are that with no proof previous owner/ownership/reggie,a car brought from out of province cannot be registered in b.c.,a problem i had with my chevelle a few yrs ago, that i did get registered after previous owner from alta.came up with ppwk.otherwise,i was s.o.l. on regestering it here in B.C.!Presumably to many stolen cars turning up here............

A bill of sale on written on the back of the "reggie",i guess that would wk wouldnt it !

I phoned on the car today. I do think the value is there for the right person, but the usual issues are apparent; Holes in the floor, fenders, hasnt been driven for years, only comes with a bill of sale, brakes dont work, etc....
The town is right off the #2 close to Red Deer which I drive by every few months, so I might just go check out this potential gem this fall.

A bill of sale is a bill of sale as long as it has the vin on it for conformation. It used to be in the back or middle of every Auto Trader back in the day that could be ripped out and used for transfer of ownership.I've bought and sold cars here in Alberta and BC with no problems with the affore mentioned process.I got my 'Chief from a bill of sale on the back of the previous owners registration papers. He signed his name along with mileage and date and badda bing-badda boom I registered and insured it no problem. What's changed?

THAT'S INTERESTING. IN ALBERTA THE REGISTRATION SLIP ITSELF IS NOT CONSIDERED OWNERSHIP. ON THE BACK THERE IS A BILL OF SALE FORM YOU CAN FILL OUT WHEN YOU SELL THE CAR. THE BACK OF THE SLIP WHEN FILLED OUT IS A LEGAL BILL OF SALE FOR THE NEW OWNER. BUT THE SLIP ITSELF (FRONT SIDE)DOES NOT CONSTITUTE OWNERSHIP TO THE PERSON NAMED ON IT. THE REASON BEING, IN ALBERTA YOU CAN REGISTER YOUR CAR IN SOMEONE ELSES NAME. SO THE NAME ON THE SLIP MAY NOT BE THE NAME OF THE ACTUAL CAR OWNER.

I like these batwing cars, we had a 61 Strato Chief 2dr sedan when I was a kid. I always liked the idea of a 348 tri power in one, of course none were probably ever made and floor shift not offered in '61 I do believe but that only gives the cruise night lawyers something to gab about.  If you were putting in a 348 might as well go whole hog and drop in the OH 9er.

As the guys were saying in can be done here in Ont. but they make you jump through the "HOOPS" & you have to get a person at the lic. office 'willing" to help you through it & may take more than one trip there. Yrs. ago I had a 38 Chevy Tudor sedan that had no ownership, had to go to the court office in Oshawa, find a J/P that would do the afadavit, swear out that the statements were true, pay the J/P get the papers & go to the Lic. office then argue there that this was OK to do it this way. 3 trips later finally got the ownership. 2 weeks later a letter comes from taxation Dept. disputing the $ value of car!!! Sent them a picture of car with caption" You think it's worth more???" Never heard back from them!!!! Car was in Pc's, body off frame!!! Didn't really look like it was worth the $600 I paid for it back in the late 80's

Ray, according to the '61 brochure, a 4-speed with floor-mounted shift lever was available with the 348, so you could build your dream car!  biggrin

Hey Ray, had a good friend who owned a 61 biscayne, numbers matching car with the 348/4sp option, 3:55 gears and it was a 4dr. He had Walker blue belly mufflers to get that 348 sound. The car was white with red interior and dog dish caps. We used to call it the fastest Taxi in Scarborough. So they were around back then.
