DOES ANYBODY KNOW IF 1.6 STAMPED STEEL ROCKERS WILL FIT A BONE STOCK '69 L48 350 WITHOUT MODIFICATIONS? MY CONCERNS WOULD BE PISTON TO VALVE CLEARANCE, PUSHROD CLEARANCE AND SPRING BINDING. MY THOUGH IS THAT DOING THIS MAY OPEN UP A BIT OF HP WITHOUT CHANGING IDLE QUALITY. ANY THOUGHTS? ANYBODY DONE THIS?
If your running your stock cam of .390 lift intake and .410 lift exh. it would change your lift to .416 lift intake and .437 lift exhaust. Would be like a mild cam change.
THANKS GUYS. I THINK I WILL PASS ON THE IDEA. I THOUGHT IF IT WAS A SIMPLE, HIDDEN BOLT ON I WOULD GIVE IT A TRY. DOESN'T MAKE SENSE TO ME TO BUY SOME ONLY TO FIND OUT I MAY NEED MODIFICATIONS. IF I WAS GOING TO PULL THE HEADS TO MAKE CLEARANCE, I WOULD JUST CHANGE THE CAM INSTEAD. I THOUGHT THIS MIGHT BE AN EASY WAY TO GET A COUPLE EXTRA PONIES BY JUST PULLING THE VALVE COVERS AND NOT HAVING TO OPEN THE ENGINE UP.
Friend of mine got into this "playing" with rockers & drilling out oil passages on a 389 Yankee engine, cost him a fortune in repairs after finding out it didn't work the way he thought it should?? Bent P/rods,& oil problems up to rockers, then head work to rectify the mods. When I did mine I left the valve train alone other than sprgs. & newer style P/rods [hollow] for more oil up top, & am running a fairly 'stiff' Comp. cam in the 64 Catalina, & 10 yrs later, it's still going strong!! US Poncho's oil the rockers thru a passage in the head,to hollow rocker studs, not up thru the P/rods, like most GM's!!!

My thoughts would be to build a big block with some of the parts you have, and combine a few of the parts I have, like the 840's, and 163 intake, and the rest would be history, like the tires!! Lol. Just a thought.
I installed 1.6 crane roller rockers and beehive valve springs on a 95 LT1 and there were no other changes like pushrods. It is cheap bolt on horsepower and you can definitely feel the extra horsepower. There should be no clearance issues on most stock cam engines.
This kind of stuff is fun. You guys all make it sound so scary. It's called hot roddin' boys! Have some fun and experiment a little.

YOUR SPENDING TOO MUCH TIME WITH YOUR THOUGHTS DARC!
X-mas is coming soon, Santa could donate the 840's then u rebuild them. Then your closer to the to much "fun factor" for your project
You got everything else you need for a BB swap. Maybe we should discuss this over a beer and a bottle of rum and butter ripple til 4 am in my garage.
The little guy in your heads say do it!! I'm with him.
