Not as rare as a 1966 SS four cylinder was. In 1966 the SS was trim package Just like Nova was trim package and $00 was trim package as was 100, 200 and 300 all definded just how dressed up it got. The more shiny chrome the higher the number. With SS you get bucket seats and that is all.
Big Dave
I would like to see an SS 4cyl, that would be interesting to have. I remember when the camaro had an inline 4cyl option called or nicknamed the "Iron Duke"

Friend had a 66 or 67 Beaumont SD with a 6......I think the SS/SD package being the performance package with the big blocks started in 68 in Chevelles and Beaumonts
In the U.S., there isn't any record of the 4 cyl used in a 1966 chevy II, Nova. There were only 367 built in 1965 and 480 in 1967. In 1968-70 they sold between 1,000 to 6,000 mainly in 4 doors that were exported for use as taxi's.
Six cylinders were available in Super Sport Nova's from the first year 1963 to 1967. In 1964 the L-61 230ci was available, in 1965, 66 the L-26 230ci was available and in 1967 the L-22 250ci was available. These would have been optional as the base 6 cylinder from 1962-67 was the 194ci L-6.
That red 66 SS has been for sale at the Winnipeg swap meet the last 2 years I believe, and yes, as stated, 6 cyl Nova SS cars were available through 67 for sure but I don't think after that.
