Definitely a GT optioned Sport Coupe. Too bad it's a parts car, no title, interior dash fire, no ownership. It's got a $400 hood.

I think that info Chris posted is mine from another post. It is US info so I note that in Canada an additional optional engine was the  L-48 350-4bbl with duals not available in the US since the Pontiac 350 was not offered with a 4 bbl in 73 but was in 74. The vast majority of GT cars are 350 2bbl versions since this engine was the basic requrement for the option package.

Would be nice to see how bad the interior was damaged....I'm sure there has to be some useable parts off it, but at $1200 it seems a little steep for a parts car.

Hood look's to be off a '75. Car is a '74 based on the stripes. In '75 the scooped hood was part of the GT packeage but in '74 it wasn't. It had to be ordered at extra cost.

A lot of people say that 1974 hoods had cowl louvers but at some point the switch to the smooth hood occured. Also every service replacement hood I have ever seen is date stamped 1973 and these SR's do not have cowl louvers. Another point is most information on these cars is US based so due to low numbers we can never be certain how Oshawa cars were built. I know that every Canadian car I have ever seen has black hood scoop inserts, this car included,  but the "Factory Correct"crowd south of the border will say these are body colour. Alot of people will also say the hood is a NACA hood but every piece of literature GM Canada ever produced calls it NASA. See two examples below:

I agree with your point's. GM did some strange thing's and the scooped hood's have been debated on many site's.

Yes and no one ever mentions how cool they look, cowl louvers or not thumbsup.gif

Looking at the GTO brochure car I see it has body coloured hood inserts, must be a US car giggle.gif

I bought the stripe for my 72 from Pheonix Graphix, looking at their website it appears they have both 73 and 74 GT stripes

I've always been a big fan of the GT stripe package along with the NASA style hood.  I think if I ever get one of these cars I'll put that stripe on it, correct or not.  Does anybody reproduce these stripes?

About NACA vs NASA:  For some reason I always thought it was supposed to be NACA, which sounded strange to me, but it's what the magazines called it.  Don't even know what NACA stands for.

Lastly, the difference between Canadian built cars and US built cars never fails to fascinate me.  I was reading Hemmings about the original untouched Canadian built '70 Chevelle, and learned a few things I didn't know before about US vs Canadian built Chevys:

I am not a huge fan of the GT stripe at all, of course cars of this era that pretended to be perfomamce cars were known as "Stripe & Decal cars" The kit sells for about $220. Another stripe was also availble in 1973 and is often seen on GTO's. I like that one much better.

Comes down to personal preference, I think, as I have never been a fan of the accent stripe on that GTO.  The way it's so sharply tapered makes the stripe look incomplete to my eyes - personal preference.

I used to discriminate against the "stripe and decal" cars of the early/mid seventies for the same reasons - because they were musclecar "wannabes", etc., but retrospectively I really like the look of some of the decal packages of that era - the aformentioned Lemans GT, the "Heavy Chevy" Chevelles, the "Rally Nova"s, the Duster "Twister" package, etc.   Presently (though it sounds like maybe it's not the case in Ontario) you can hot rod these cars so easily to have the power to match the looks, so my old discrimination against "wannabes" is no longer valid.

On a more humourous note, I was catching up on reading an older issue of Hemmings Muscle Car, and had to chuckle at the feature about the Heavy Chevy Chevelle, where they referred to the package as a muscle car package, even though most were likely sold with a 307 2-bbl automatic combination. biggrin

The writer didn't seem to realize that these packages were brought out for the buyer who wanted the look of a musclecar without the muscle, mainly because insurance costs for the performance cars were going through the roof at the time (justifiably, as so many of those cars were involved in serious wrecks back in the day due to their exuberant young drivers combined with mushy suspension and inadequate brake and tire technology - IMHO), so in fact in many ways they were anti-musclecar.  Interesting.
