Some help here, please guys.

Dave, I am quite sure they are different. I don't have both styles here to prove it but because the 66 uses that "U" shaped clamp to hold the column and the 67 uses the 3 bolts, I'm pretty sure they won't interchange.

If this is the case then is there anyone out there with a '67 Beaumont auto brake pedal housing that can help out another Poncho member, if so, would you please contact Chad A.K.A. Chader and give him a hand. Much appreciated, Dave.

We need to know if the auto brake pedal 'housing' (also holds up the steering column) from a 1966 Beaumont will fit into a 1967 Beaumont. The only reason why I ask is because they went to the collapsable steering column in '67 and if not mistaken they went to a 3 bolt hold up bracket as opposed to a 2 bolt bracket for '66. A poncho member is in need of a '67 housing and we have a '66 here but don't want to ship it without being 100% sure. Does the housing itself interchange ? thx all

Re: Will 67 steering column flange fit on a 66

I am pretty sure that the 1967 steering column shaft is one inch diameter. All collapsible columns non-adjustable and tilt (1967 and later) all had one inch tubular shafts at the lower end.

The earlier steering column shafts were 3/4 inch diameter and were solid. You cannot make a one inch flange attach to a 3/4 shaft.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 66 and 67 flanges are different. In addition to the rag joint bolt mounting holes, I believe the part that squeezes around the shaft is a little different too.

You might be able to force a square peg in a round hole, but I think if you have your original 66 column and your original 66 flange, I'd look for a 66 PS rag joint instead of trying to make a hodge-podge assembly. Bear in mind this is your steering (and safety) that you're talking about!!

I would think that the only other column that would fit a 67 Beaumont would be out of a 67 GTO, Tempest or Lemans.

Is this it Chad?

Do you just need the little bracket or everything in the picture?

Yup,  i kind of went through this last year with my 67 build,   the 67 is totally unique to the beaumont,  chevelle is different.

67 beaumont and 67 GTO are the same tho,  sorry i dont have any around.

No worries Dave, I just picked this one up at Brian's for Chad a couple of hours ago out of a 4 door Custom he has for parts. Just need to know if he needs the bolt on bracket or the whole thing.

I'm not sure. Is there something that stops the pedal from smashing the switch? The problem I am having is the pedal comes back and the switch bracket bends. I thought there was a stop with a rubber stopper on it. I have never seen one. Just going by the manual.

Nope,  the pedal just hits the switch,  you will notice that the bracket the switch is bolted to,  it has 2 holes so the switch can be mounted in 2 positions.  one is for PB and one is for Manual Brakes

So Dave, do you just basically figure out where "home" is for the pedal and then adjust the switch so it's just short of bottom at that point? Seems a bit Mickey M.

Everyone I have seen has been manipulated. Maybe my bracket is just weak.

If you'd like it mailed, just PM me your info.

If not, I suspect either I or Mike will do a trip sometime before next spring.

Yes,  i know its kind of strange,  but it works,  also no return springs either,  but thats the way it is

I remember you asking about this but I didn't totally understand then. Now that I have the bracket in my hand, I see the dilema!

Yes it was a MAJOR source of greif when doing a power or manual brake conversion on a 67 beaumont,  thats for sure!!!
