Interesting??? I didn't know that the 2dr. htp. was Cdn only??? Would want a confirmation on that 'tid bit"!!! Car looks pretty solid but I hate Garage pictures, as you can't get an over view of the whole car.

For sale : rare 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air2 door hardtop. Apparently only Canadian made Bel Airs came in a 2dr hardtop version, less than 1000 made. This car was stored for 20 years when I bought it in 1990. I drove it for several summers and now has been in storage again for 15 years.
Front and rear floor boards are all original with only one small rust hole. The trunk is all original with only some rust along the seam at the bottom of spare wheel well. The glass is immaculate. The doors still close like a new car. Interior is still original, with a tear on the driver side seat. Front door panels are showing their age. Minor rust on body(all repaired) at bottom of each front fender and slightly over each rear wheelwell.
When I acquired the car in 1990 it had some performance part modifications. Its a 283 with headers, 4barrel carb, chrome engine parts, posi-traction , 5:38 rear gears and a Muncie M21 4 speed transmission ,hurst shifter, high performance solid lifters, electric fuel pump and slip fan, tach and gauges, air shocks with coil springs.
Car needs new paint to be a real head turner. Headlight bezels and other parts that are off the car are still in my garage.. Odometer shows 37,000 miles but was not hooked up to the Muncie. Front wheel is off in pictures as I was changing a brake flex hose.
If interested email for questions and additional pictures.
Impala 2 dr HT both north and south, Belair 2dr HT Canada only, the US got a Belair 4dr HT instead, we got the better deal.
4 door hard top Bel Air ???? never saw one of those , what year ??
You know something? I didn't know that the Bel Air 2-door hardtop was Canada-only in 1959. I decided to check my U.S. brochure and I couldn't find that model. I decided to go to the GM Heritage site for their information packet. Sure enough it confirmed things. They were available stateside in 1960 however.
The difference between the 1959 Bel Air & Impala is very subtle. They both used the teardrop tail lights so the usual dual unit vs. triple unit tail lights clue is not present that year. The side moldings were a little less full on the Bel Air, plus the series namplate was on the front fender rather than on the side molding like the Impala. I have seen an article in Super Chevy on the last of the fuellies, a 1959 Bel Air 2-door post. I never thought there was a reason why it wasn't a hardtop. I guess in the U.S. they wouldn't have as many springing for the more expensive Impala hardtop when the difference is so subtle. Meanwhile in Canada the standard of living was slightly lower and production was a fraction of the U.S. - perhaps they wanted every chance to make a sale to pay for the 2-door hardtop tooling. It wouldn't be the last time GM did something like that in Canada.
The Bel Air 4-door hardtop was offered from 1956 through 1961, and the Impala 2-door post was offered in 1961-only.
Yes a one year annomily. Also the Belair did not get the bright strips in the tail lights for another subtle visual clue. The rear seat had no speaker grill, so being a hardtop only rear seat back makes it a very unique piece. I knew a guy who had one of these rare beasts, but sadly it was converted to an Impala for greater recognition and pizazz.
I played with the idea of making mine into a Belair when I was doing it, as i had a belair 2dr sedan parts car, but I liked the look of the Impala trim better for what I ultimately wanted the car to look like.
