Reverse lights

I have a 1951 chieftain. I have no reverse lights on it, and was wondering if this was an option back in the day? And how much did it cost back then. And of course if I wanted to add reverse lights now, how would I go about that? Thanks

Welcome here Jimmy. 51 is not an era of these cars I'm familiar with but there's a number of guys here who are and I'm sure they will help you out.

my 55 gmc didn't come with reverse lights from the factory. the previous owner had made his own on a toggle switch. my parts book gm no 212 51 edition does list an option for a single for a chev and pairs for olds and buick. my computers kinda busy converting movie files right now or i would scan the pg.

Yes it was an option, small stand alone chrome "bullet" light that either was on the splash apron or rear panel below the trunk lid. Dealer installed option 90% of the time!! See alot of them at flea mrkts. usually stashed in a box under the tables!!!!
