Our Feburary feature car belongs to Mike Homer. Mike's 1957 Pontiac Safari is a true survivor. It is almost impossible to find a Canadian built Pontiac still sporting it's original paint and interior. Mike's Safari has both. Mike tells us a little more about his awesome wagon:
Here are a few pics of my 57 Pontiac safari Wagon, it was built in Oshawa Ont and sold in Vancouver at Bowell/McLean motors. It is number 1510 of 1639 units of this body style.and is still the original Highland Green Metallic paint (not so shiny anymore).
There are just over 44,000 original miles on the car and the 261 cid straight six still runs down the road just fine. The interior is in great shape and the only addition is a stereo/cd player, cause it is a radio delete car.
I have added 15 inch steel wheels with the original dog dish hubcaps and the surfboards on an old wooden roof rack!
The ol' wagon gets a lot of attention when we take it to the beach or cottage country and last summer earned itself a trophy at the Bothwell car show for best unrestored/ original which was sponsored by RM Restorations in Chatham, Ont.
This car always draws a crowd at cruise nights in and around Toronto, nice to see it featured a real piece of Canadian automotive history. Say, the second photo looks like one of my trademark angle shots taken at the Queensway Canadian Tire cruise in a few summers ago.
Mike your 57 Pontiac is one real sweet classic Canadian ride. I love that 57 beauty of yours. I know your car all too well, the previous owner Paul is a friend of mine. I was real close to buying your car from Paul and it was making me nuts wanting it so bad but not having any room for it. Of course now i feel like a complete idiot for not buying it when i had the chance. Nice to see you put the stock wheels back on her, good move Mike. We have spoken in the past and i look forward to seeing the car again and talking to you sir. I am so thankful Paul sold this sweet piece of Canadian automotive history to someone like you, that will keep the car's original integrity. They are only original once, as the saying goes. My 57 Pontiac was the same colour and interior as yours originally before i redid my 57. Mike, the best of luck with her and continued sweet classic cruisin. BEAUTIFUL 57 ride. Cheers. George.
