shiny new bumpers came today

arrived at home to discover 2 big boxes sitting on the front stairs.Low and behold my new bumpers arrived.I was starting to get a little worried as everytime i tried to track them on ups all it could tell me was a shipping label had been created.I thought the purpose of a tracking number was so you could track your package?I even had checked this morning and again no information until the package arrived at their depot for delivery.I called ups and all they could tell me was they couldn't track it until they hit canada.Pretty much useless as could be,thanks ups.Anyways here, safe and sound, the first step in replaceing or redoing all the chrome on the 54.Next will be to send the bumperettes and crosspiece for the rear to the chrome shop.At least she'll have nice shiny bumpers come spring.I am allso ordering a 1hp 10 inch buffer from eastwood so i can attempt to save some of the other chrome trim.Supposed to be a nice warm weekend out here so hopefully get out in the garage and at least do some cleanup so i can start working on the car again.World of wheels coming up in a few weeks so that should get the itch to start tinkering going strong.Come on spring!!

The bumpers I got were a set of NOS bumpers off a fellow on ebay.I got a pretty good deal as I had checked into getting the originals redone and they would've been around 400-500 each to do and I bought these originals for 330.00 each and they were still in the brown gm wrapping paper and boxes.I even lucked out on the shipping as the price ups quoted to ship them was almost 150.00 less than what they actually ended up charging.Since they quoted me the lower price they had to give me that price.I do have to get my front bumperettes done as well as the rear ones and crossbar.I think I will use alberta plating in Calgary.I had a talk with him at the world of wheels and he figures he could do all 5 pieces for less than 200.00.I have been trying to find new ones but like pulling hens teeth as the ones I do find are in the same shape as mine.I plan to take them in next week so hopefully I can give an update shortly on how they are to deal with.I also just picked up a 1hp 10 inch bench buffer from eastwood along with all the wheels/polishes etc.I had some old trim pieces from my 54 delivery and although its a lot of work and time I am quite amazed at how far you can bring a piece of stainless back from the dead.I started with a dented/pitted half painted piece of quarter trim and after a few hours on the anvil and dolly hammer I had it pretty straight, sanded with a roloc disc to get rid of the pits,8 different grits of sandpaper starting by hand with a 400 grit to a 1500 grit on a air da sander it is almost like new and I still have 3 steps of polishing left on the buffer.I am in Strathmore so in the same part of southern alberta.

Wow, did you take any pictures? I'll be very interested in your take on Alberta Plating.
I just got bumperettes for the rear of my 52 Chieftain, the kind that stand off the rear bumper to avoid bumper locking and to protect the quarter panels. They could use a shine, but I'm not there, yet.
As I acquire NOS parts, I'm keeping the packaging - either for a scrapbook, or as my wife suggested yesterday, for a shadow box frame.
I have a center grille piece, the one that holds the round, red Indian Head emblem, that's broken where it attached to the center support. I have to see a re-chromer to determine if it can be repaired and refinished. At the cost of having them done, it's gonna' be in bits and pieces, for sure.
We have an antique stove finisher here in town that uses Alberta Plating and he says to good advantage.

My next door neighbour had a ton of chroming done on his car by Alberta Plating and he was extremely satisfied with both quality and price, was a few years ago. I also met the owner awhile back and he seemed like a class guy.
