I need to instal a Saginaw 605 Steering Box for power steering. My issue is which steering column to select and what length. I have look at IDIDIT and asked them and they will not reply. Has anyone does this install to a 55 or 56 Pontiac - mine is American but I do not think that will effect things.
Sorry, American and Canadian steering columns do NOT have the same part number, therefore they are not interchangeable. Too bad, if you had a Canadian 1955 Pontiac, the Chevy steering column would be correct. One disadvantage of old cars in general is that nobody makes parts for them, American Pontiacs included (hence no response from IDIDIT since they don't make parts for your car) - exception of course is highly popular models like 55-57 Chevys, which fortunately for us with Canadian Pontiacs, most of those mechancial parts fit right.

If you check Summit catalogue they list different length from "Flaming River" + their own line!! You can also talk to a tech person at F/River!! I installed one in a Olds cutlass & the tech. Guy I spoke to about a wiring issue was really helpfull!!! Yours will require some fabrication but shouldn't take a whole lot to make it fit!!!!
