May 2013 Feature Car

It's been a while since we've featured an early 60's Canadian Pontiac. What better way to kick off the cruising season than with Brian Parkin's beautiful 1964 Parisienne Custom Sport? Brian's Pontiac looks almost like the one he bought new in 1964. While it may not have a 409 like his original, this Custom Sport is still sure to please with it's healty 327 backed by a 4 speed transmission. Brian fills us in on the details...

I purchased a 1964 Pontiac Custom Sport new in 1964. a Maroon/white vinyl roof, red interior, 409 425hp 4sp 3:70 rear end. Had this car for 3 years and loved it. My latest “bucket list” included a 64cs, but as I searched the internet one car got my attention. A 1964cs 300hp 327 4sp 3:55 rear end. It was owned by a Canadian Poncho Member (Bill). The interior was red and the outside red. It was not my 409, but my heart was set on having this car in my driveway.

Now I have a few cars that only go to car shows, I built them for that purpose. I wanted a everyday car that could get caught in the rain and I would not get upset if dust or dirt got on it. So my daughter Brianne and I picked up the car from Bill one Monday morning at his house in Kitchener Ontario for the “ROAD TRIP” home. We did a post on it with my daughter taking pictures as I drove ahead of her, 2 ½ hours later we where pulling into our driveway in Barrie Ontario. Listing what has been done was taken up in several posts. The repairing of trunks, body mounts, motor and transmission mounts, chamber exhaust, all aspects of the brakes, tires and some interior modifications, such as shifter changes and teak wood additions where personal touches.

The engine is now running perfect. Carb. done, MSD electronic distributor, new wires and AC-44 plugs.

As with any older car tons of little things were taken care of. Do I feel like I’m in my old 409, maybe sometimes, the interior is exactly the same, even colour and right down to the factory Tach. Because I do all my own work I made a pact with myself to do it without the use of my hoist, the under car jobs have increased my four letter vocabulary but most of the time I am the only one who hears it.

Without Todd, of Canadian Poncho and the great members who have helped with questions and provided me with parts, thanks so much.  I drive my car nearly everyday, and it has not missed a beat, it pulls trailers of junk to the dump and boats to the marina.

I love the 327 engine and the M20 4sp., and even though I visit Jim (409 61 Pontiac) and see his spare 409 engines in his shop, I have not YET been tempted.

This car has proven that Pontiac made a great car in 1964 and with my plans for new paint, maybe engine stuff, it will always be my favorite in the stable and the one I grab the keys for when we go out. “Bucket Lists” can come true if you really want it to happen.

Brian

When you look at the side views of those 64 Custom Sports, you can really tell that someone who knew what they were doing designed that car.  They really are a work of art.

I like to stand at the front corner of those 64's, and look along the body lines to the rear bumper.  From there one can really see the 'coke bottle' rear fenders.

Very nice car!!!

Sweet     I love the red and the wheel combo   Congratulations

In 1964 in Sackville N.B.

we had a beautiful older blonde lady, driving a 64 Custom Sport with white buckets

It was almost a pale purple   283 glide    I (age 15) loved that car  (or maybe it was blonde)

I have loved 64 Custom Sports since I was too young to drive. When I started pumping gas at age 14, one of my regular customers drove a maroon convert. Liked them ever since!

VERY nice car, and this will be a good month once again!

Congrats!

When I think about what an iconic image of a Canadian Pontiac should be...your 64 Parisienne covers it. If they do a CP stamp...

As all will agree, the lines are perfect, and when you look at old images of any Canadian city, these cars are usually in every picture.

I am lucky enough to have seen this car in person and it is cool, just like it's owner. Thumbs Up Brian.

Congratulations, Brian. Your '64 CS looks awesome and is very nicely done. Excellent choice for a spring feature car, Todd.

I'll admit to loving the 1964 Parisienne Custom Sport since the 1960s when I was still riding a tricycle. The grille & rocker moldings of the CS really helped, but for some reason I always loved those tall, directional rear turn signals. There used to be an always clean, babied silver-blue 1964 Parisienne Custom Sport convertible that visited our neighbor across the street throughout the 1970s. I always loved that car, even if it was only a 283 Powerglide. The 327 4-speed of the feature car is a really sweet all around package. Even though they were big cars (or just standard cars as they were known back in the day) they were fairly light. The 327 had the torque to give nice performance without being a fuel piglet.

Thank you so much Todd and the wonderful comments from the members. You realize I would not have owned this car without the members help on my search for a 64cs 4sp. This car is a driver and I use it everyday and yes somtimes I realize how lucky I am. To Bill the former owner thanks for keeping the Pontiac alive so I could continue giving it a future. Alot of people see the car and then talk about their memories of Pontiacs, men as well as ladies. This website ROCKS. And by the way my avitar is my original 409cs.
