Excellent site with lot's of info,  Just recently purchased a 66 396 Custom Sport , beautiful car but I don't want to hang aftermarket

gauges on a completely stock original vehicle.  That being said, I'm not comfortable driving without being able to monitor the temp and oil pressure.  if anyone has one for sale please let me know.  Thanks,  Ty

Welcome here Tyler. That is a GREAT looking car.

Are you aware that the Canadian 66 full size Pontiacs like your's never came with factory oil and temp gauge setups?

They did come with factory tachs however. I don't have one for sale but I'll send you a private message with a possible lead on one for sale.

Thank you for all the helpful replies.  I purchased it appx. 3 weeks ago from the original owner with 38000 miles on the odometer.

Hadn't run in a long time, but I put a new battery in and used a electric fuel pump and removed the old fuel and added some seafoam and high octane, primed it a couple of times and it fired right up.  Drove it home and just in the middle of rebuilding the motor and replacing all the brake shoes wheel cylinder's, lines front ,strut rod bushing ball joint's cleaning reconditioning original rad etc and detailing cleaning the engine bay and under carriage.  Low miles but I did not want to take a chance just driving with out going through it.

It has all the original twisty shock's, T3 headlight's, split ring battery cables  Tiger Paw tires, hub caps etc.

My first Parisienne, I had a 66 GTO when I was younger, so I am already predispositioned to Pontiacs.  Very excited and anxious to get it done.  Ty

Can you post some more pics includig a clsoe up of the cowl tag?   In terms of the oil and temp gauges its a fair job.  I just did one thanks to Carl S who pioneered this conversion on Canadian Ponchos and I must say its look so much better than it di d with the aftermarket one my car had.

Is your car an auto or manual?

Wow, what a find! If you don't already have the GM Canada Vintage documents for it, that is one car that certainly would be worthy of getting the paperwork for.

Nice, couple of neat things I see right away are the correct air cleaner and that cool Canadian-only ignition coil in aluminum instead of black like the US cars.

Also, I see a Turbo 400 kickdown solenoid.

What a cool car Tyler!

Thanks Carl, Good eye for the Turbo 400,  It only has undercoating, tilt, centre speaker and posi 2.73 as option's,  No AC power windows etc.  I'm keeping the external part of the engine factory  manifolds , number's etc. all stock.  But the internal's will be a little more stout.

Local car purchased  in Regina,  I purchased it from the original owner's wife , have all the original paperwork, bill of sale, proteco plate, etc.  It has black interior, which is in excellent condition except one rip on the drivers upper bucket bolster area.

They're either seized or flopping around rattling to no end!

When I bought my 66 GP 396 4 speed in 1981, he included at least 3 heat riser valves in the boxes of spare/changed parts that came with the car. All of them were changed because they rattled!

Oh man, save those plug wires! I think they say 4-Q-65 on them, right? 4th quarter of 1965, originals.

I hate to say, considering what you are planning it but of all the cars on this forum over the years this one one should be left completely original as a reference copy.  It is amazingly unscrewed with except for the top rad hose.  Make sure you take lots of pics so we can have those for reference please.  Also a close up of the cowl tag with the numbers in focus would allow us to see options it had and the producton date which is always good to know.

You're car would be one of about 3 or four original 396 cars that I've heard about on this forum so you have a very rare survivor especially with such low miles and complete as it is.

Lucky lucky guy!
