1965 Acadian Beaumont SD convertible

Hi from a new member. Thanks for having me. I just picked up the 65 last week from a farmer letting it go to the goats in his field. I have been looking for a project to work on with my son for a couple of years now an am looking forward starting on it this winter. I can't seem to figure out how to post the pictures yet. But would like some advice on how to decode the VIN # 573867051677 to get a little history on it. It currently has a 396 in it but from what I gather it came originally with a 283 v8.

Welcome Paul. This is the right place for Canadian Pontiac, Acadian & Beaumont enthusiasts.

Your v.i.n. as stated decodes to: "5" - 1965, "738" - Beaumont Sport Deluxe, "67" - convertible. Are you sure you didn't leave the next number off? I would expect a "1" for Oshawa or "2" for Ste. Thérèse.

My 65 Acadian is 571737O03XXX (X's are to hide the last 3)

The "oh" after the 7 is for Oshawa.

Your 396 is a nice engine (unless it is stuck). Nice find!

Is the licence on the front of it 1976? Was it last on the road then?

Thanks I will need parts but won't know for sure till I start taking it apart. I will keep in touch and let you know as it moves along. Do you have a motor in the parts car if so what is it?

When I saw that, I thought maybe you are from "down under".

That's funny I asked the previous owner the same thing! Yes that was the last time it was registered! In 76. Pretty rough shape for a car that was only registered for 13 years.

Frenchie, are you in Manitoba? If so, you are obligated to join us for a Canadian Poncho coffee night which we do from time to time on the east side of Winnipeg by the Mint. (Just kidding about the obligated, but not kidding that we'd love to have you join us.)

Oh, and I work with a couple of French guys who have a great sense of humour about "doing things backwards or upside down" but I wasn't brave enough to try that line out on you since you are new here!

Pefect, you will see it posted here in the lounge. You happen to have a Canadian Poncho buddy with a Beaumont in Transcona. Beaumont4008 is Ian, and you'll see him often on here AND he never missed our coffee breaks, he's retired!

Welcome Paul! Nice find!! Always liked the 65 body style!! If you get a chance, please post the Cowl Tag! It has more info on it. Also, the door tag looks like it has been re-rivited...the usual rivits are star shaped..at least in 67 they are, not sure about 65...may have been off for painting..very cool find though! 65 rag!!! yea!

I will get the cowl tag next time I go to the farm. The car is currently being stored at a friends place. We will be going to start taking it apart in a couple of weeks. When I do I'll get the info thanks.

Take good care of the side trim on that car. I understand from members here that stuff is impossible to find.
