Engine oil in GM 6 cylinder inline 261 cui

Hi

I know this is a very common question, but I need to know what kind of oil you use in your inline 6 GM engine's.

My engine runs pretty smooth from its age - it has a light valve clicking.

Has 48000 km on the clock but I dont know how many times it has turned over

From what I can find on youtube the valve noise is normal?

It burns the sparkplugs an exhaust pretty clean without visible oil smoke at idle.

Im using a semi grade Castrol Classic SAE 30.

My only concern is that I need to add a 1/4 -1/2 liter engine oil for every 250 km.

Engine is with an oil cleaner.

Is this oil consumption normal?

Should I try another oil?

Your 6 may be leaking a lot of that consumption.......as well
I've used Castrol 20W50 since the 70's in all my street muscle cars
and still do today.....I also will put 1/2L Lucas Oil Stabilizer in.
Lately I've added GM's EOS for durability as it still contains ZDDP.
Nailhead is right about the valve guides, etc.........all this wears and
as some of old timers remember these cars leaked and used oil when
they were new.
As long as it's not burnin' blue smoke.....you're doin' OK.

cheers
BJ
