Replace 64 motor mounts...

Drivers side motor mount on my 64 Parisienne has been broken for a while....

Decided to replace it tonite, when the sun went to the other end of the driveway...

Broken one came out pretty easily, but the replacement will need some coaxing...now I know why they made those cable stays for the recall...

Any tricks to this?........does it go in from the top?

I bought a pair of replacements...same p/n...same box,...one is chinese & the other is indian...go figure.

They are NOT exactly the same...(see pics) and BOTH are different than original...although dimensionally should be OK

I'm thinking about removing the bottom u-tab with my grinder before installing it...going to make it a whole lot easier to get the bolt in,I think.

Think I'll leave the other side till the engine comes out...that Y-pipe makes it almost impossible to get your hand in the bottom...

I've heard horror stories about Asian engine mounts. Bad fitment, the holes don't line up. Chinese junk steel ... I'd return them and get real mounts.

My experience with the aftermarket 283/327 mounts was a nightmare. They ended up in the garbage. No amount of grinding the hole bigger and prying, leaving the bolts loose for more "play" would make them fit. I bought NOS mounts off ebay and the motor literally dropped down on the frame stand and I slid the bolt through. The aftermarket mounts appear the same, other than much lighter metal frames, but mine would NOT fit.

Hey Brian, I replaced both sides, plus the tranny mount. This is not as easy as it looks, I put a board under engine so as not to dent oil pan. Lift one side at a time. I slid mine in from the side (firewall side). The third bolt that is in the centre was the pain for me. I bought good mounts and so far no issues, I also added the safety cable unit that I bought from a C.P. member. This makes thinks safe and original looking. By the way all my mounts were broken before I replaced them. Brian

OK,thanks for the input... Tried three times & my pics wouldn't load...never had that problem here before. The mounts I got are the Anchor ones in the red & white box. Brian, when you say you bought good mounts, what kind were they? Guess the GM ones are long discontinued...don't really want to go with urethane. Pictures still won't load...

I found them at the swap meet at the international centre in T.O. In the original GM box non locking tab type. $35 for two. the tranny mount came through CTC (Canadian Tire) , $14. The non eared mounts where original I think, and the rubber looked excellent. What about Impala Bob's he has reasonable prices, but in the States or our own sponsors at NOS. Brian

Prothane makes them. I'll be buying a pair. I already got the Prothane transmission mount.

Will you feel more engine vibration with the urethane mounts?

I think my driver side mount just let go. Accelerating hard from a stop moves the shift lever up towards neutral, and puts the trans in second gear
