Just acquired a 56 Pathfinder - original - complete - driveable - but needs paint and new interior.  can anyone point me in the right direction to decode these numbers

Pontiac codes are same as Chevrolet but first digit is a 2 instad of a 1.

1956 Chevrolet paint codes

1001 - Black
1002 - Harbour Blue Metallic
1003 - Dusk Plum Metallic
1004 - Sherwood Green Metallic
1005 - Pinecrest Green
1006 - Nassau Blue
1007 - India Ivory
1008 - Crocus Yellow
1009 - Gypsy Red
1010 - Twilight Turquoise
1021 - Dawn Grey Metallic
