1966 Beaumont ignition switch question.

Is the ignition sitch for a 66 Beaumont a unique to that one year and also for Beaumont only? I have a chance to buy a back up one as the one I have now may be contributing to to the occasional starting problem as discussed here in another thread. Will a repro 66 Chevelle  or something else not work? Is $25.00 about the right price to pay for a used 66 Beaumont ignition switch?

CHEVELLE SWITCH IS DIFFERENT!! YOU WILL NEED A SWITCH FROM A GTO/TEMPEST/LEMANS 66 OR 67 WILL BE THE ONLY ONE TO FIT IT AND IS NOT MADE/REPRODUCED ANYMORE!!

I HAVE BOUGHT TWO FOR MINE @ AROUND $85 DOLLARS OFF OF EBAY (ONE WAS STOLEN OFF MY PORCH WHEN ON VACATION)no SEEN THEM GO AS HIGH AS $175!!!

SO IF IT IS A GTO SWITCH FOR $25 THAT IS A STEAL!!!

I ALSO WAS HAVING A STARTING PROBLEM AS YOU DESCRIBED BUT WHEN JUMPING THE CAR IT WOULD START FINE EVERY TIME!!!MINE HAD ONE OF THE WIRES LOSE AT THE SWITCH AND IT WOULD MAKE CONTACT SOMETIMES AND START, BUT WOULD ALWAYS START WHEN JUMPING SO I AM NOT SURE BUT WHEN THE CABLES ARE ON THE CAR IT MUST COMPLETE THE CIRCUIT THAT THE WIRE THAT WAS LOOSE DIDN'T???? I THOUGHT IT WAS GROUND WIRES/CABLES/ ALTERNATOR/ETC BUT IT WAS JUST THAT WIRE TO THE IGNITION SWITCH!!!

ANYWAYS THE ONES I BOUGHT OF EBAY WHERE ALSO NEW GM OLD STOCK ONES FOR THAT PRICE FOR A 67'GTO WITH A LIGHT WELL TO LIGHT UP THE KEY SLOT!

WHICH AT $85 DOLLARS I THOUGH I GOT A REAL GOOD DEAL AS I'D BEEN WATCHING FOR A SWITCH FOR AROUND 3 MONTHS TO GET ONE AT THAT PRICE!!!

AND 67' WITH LIGHT WELL WAS THE ONLY YEAR THAT WAS USED ON!!! SAME SWITCH AS 66' JUST LIGHT WELL ADDED TO THE CASTING AND IT WAS AN OPTION FOR THAT YEAR.

IF IT IS A USED SWITCH FROM A BEAU FOR THAT I WOULD GET IT AND TRY TO CLEAN/REBUILD THE OLD ONE TO KEEP AS A SPARE!!

FOR $25 BUCKS YOU CAN'T GO WRONG!!!

Loose terminals or poor contacts in a switch create a high resistance condition. With factory wiring, the start circuit draws through a very long circuit which, when combined with a bad switch drops the voltage too low to trigger the solenoid. When you "boost", it is enough extra power to overcome the weak connection.

Doesn't help locate the bad spot...

With Carl's remote solenoid fix the only thing I can think of is the replacement solenoid triggers a little easier than the original (less draw) ?? Definitely would under hot conditions as the remote solenoid would be cooler.
