What oil in manual steering box (and other steering box questions)?

Hey guys. Sorry for the dumb questions but I don't have any factory manuals or literature on my car and besides, you guys are so quick smile I figure I'd ask here first. Sooo, what oil/lubricant goes in my manual steering box in my '61? Would 80W90 gear oil like in the manual trans and rear end do the trick?

Also I assume the filler bolt is the one with the square head right? And lastly, if someone can refresh my memory, the other bolt in the middle of the triangular cover that's held on by 3 bolts, that's the adjustment bolt right (I swear I adjusted the box before but that was years ago...)?

That gear oil will work fine in my opinion but I find alot of these older steering boxes have a tendency to let most of it leak out. Mine did that so I just put in the lightest grease I could find, think it was for a cold application, and it has worked really good. During the hottest days of summer I might get a drip or two come out but it steers perfect for me.

Hey, thanks. Funny you mention the drops, I always had those, especially in the summer.

Now for the second part of the question, can anyone shed some light or does anyone have an exploded diagram of the box so I can get an idea which is the filler and where adjustments are to be made?
