Just thought..... I`d share my friends 1966 Impala with all My Canadian Friends.
1966 CHEVROLET SUPER SPORT IMPALA
427 L-36 ORIGINAL low MILES
Tuxedo Black / Red Interior
Back in October 27th 1965 a fellow named Leonard Stevenson had ordered a beautiful Tuxedo Black / Red Bucket Seat Interior L36 - 427 Super Sport Impala from McGinnis Chevrolet in Scotland South Dakota his way. In fact there is a document.... which is hand written, showing a break down of his request and written signature of his endorsement including a whopping $2000.00 down deposit in cash. With a deposit like this, from back in the day....you could just tell that this was an exciting moment in time for him to interrupt the assembly line to have a 427 lowered into this vehicle especially in Black/Red. As we all know the mid '60`s was some of the best years for factory muscle and accessible to order with several combinations including some luxury & throw in some excitement under the hood. Almost 48 years later to the month, this same 427 Super Sport is back available for sale almost in the same condition. The records show that there were a limited amount of these Big cars produced equipped with L36 in 1966.....production number are 3,247.
This car is coming out of my personal private collection of '66 427 big cars, I have always taken serious approaches and pride in collecting these numbers matching documented '66 427 big cars. In fact I found myself specializing in the restorations.... including the hard to find parts, which I have always enjoyed on these cars. I have always kept this car in a climate controlled environment while sitting next to its grouping of other 427 '66`s in my collection. This is a complete numbers matching all BORN-WITH 427/390HP Engine, Trans, Rear end, from the front pulley to the 12 bolt rear cover. I cannot really call this Super Sport a true survivor because it definitely has had a stunning exterior repaint in its past history, otherwise.... it would fall in that category. All the inner jambs are still original GM paint from inner doors, trunk, hood, etc. I do not have any records of when this car was painted, but it is really hard to detect.
This Super Sport is in great condition, including the Odometer reading 19942 miles appears to be correct. There is documents (supplied) showing how South Dakota required a vehicle safety tag with the mileage recorded when inspected as seen how very few miles were ever put on this car. I can only assume that this Super Sport has always been loved and appreciated throughout out its life so far. I can promise it drives, looks, and appears that ALL care takers have done there jobs. The interior of this Super Sport may be the nicest Ive ever seen or known to exist. Everything is in great shape..... from the color down to condition, all original with nothing missing including dated seat belts and the small chrome bullets at the end of the seat piping. The am push button radio comes in loud & clear including the original elliptical antenna in tact. The center console is perfect and has no cracks.....the compartment light & rear light all function. The heater/defrost works perfect. All the rubber seals from the A pillar to the door seals, window felts, trunk seals, etc is all genuine GM Chevrolet with the nice skin seal. The bright work is amazingly clean and in perfect condition. All sheet metal is all original with appropriate factory gaps. Chrome is great and fitted aligned. Windows are all original with LOF etching even dated correct mirrors. This Super Sport was assembled in St Louis on the third week of 1965 all other assembly items are clearly documented with photos of pour dates or dated sub assemblies. With my collecting, networking and traveling the United States....with my passion for this style of car over the years.... I can honestly say this has to be one of the very few left in existence with this low mileage combination, condition, documentation and Exterior / Interior Color combo. The industry knows that good cars with integrity clearly speak a special language to all us collectors.
RUST-OLEUM products had chosen this car to do a very large engine enamel paint campaign. Any time you go into a Lowes or Home Depot or several auto parts store and you see the RUST-OLEUM brand of engine enamel the photo of the engine on those cans is that engine from this car.
