Saginaw 3 speed overdrive for sale

The cleanup continues...

It's gotta be 20 years since I bought this thing. Time to admit it's one of those projects that never will happen.

For those of you who don't know about the conversion, you can take this trans, remove the back half and hang it on a Saginaw 4 speed to make a 4 speed plus overdrive. I planned to build a car and use it some day.......

This trans was used only in the US, only in 66-69 GM cars and pickups. They are not easy to find, and this one is intact. It's got the wiring harness, kickdown switch etc.

Seems to me I paid $225 US dollars for it way back when, so I would like to get $225 out of it now. I'm not going to lose a sale over a few bucks but I wont sell it for a 100 bucks either.

A link talking about the conversion.

Hot Rod Magazine April 1975 has a 2 page story on it. I believe I have a photocopy of the article somewhere.

you say 66-69 cars/trucks.  I wonder what the difference is for the early 60s ones,  i have seen them in the US on 63 chevys for example.

The earlier ones are much smaller and they aren't full syncro like this one.

OK,,so here's a question??  would I be able to use it in my 55  chevy, and still use the bolt action shifter?  the OD is electric engaged?

that would make it pretty cool !!

I wish I could answer either one of those!

I believe the OD is engaged by the cable. Oh yeah, forgot to mention, pretty sure I have the cable and handle that mounts under the dash and it's included if I have it.

As far as working off the bolt action, I would sure think so but it is made for 66-69 so can't promise.

I'm still recovering from seeing those units on ebay. That is absolutely insane, you can buy a used Muncie for those prices!

Oh, and by the way Rog, I also have a Saginaw 4 speed here for Vince. Maybe you two can get to transmissions shipped at once if you buy this one. That would get it closer to you if it at least made it to his place.

Would this be the same transmission that is in my 1968 El Camino? It is a 3 speed with overdrive.

Good home for it, and from what I hear these later OD's are superior to the unsyncronized units.

No, it's gone to rabbit64cs but I know I did have a second one. I think I sold it a while back, but I can check. Are you looking to convert a 4 speed to overdrive or just install an overdrive 3 speed?

I know I had the back half overdrive stuff as well but I'm not sure I have it any more.
