Review of a repro part --- Goodmark trunk pan

I bought the centre section of the trunk pan to put into my GP. The only are I really need is the little well for the spare tire and a couple of inches around it, but the least you can buy is the centre strip from front to back.

I trimmed it down quite a bit, this is still more than I need.

Anyway, nice solid piece of metal but I wish they could have put the channels in the right spot! I am reworking the channel to move it over but in hindsight, I should have just sectioned about 3/8" of an inch out of the piece front to back so that the two channels would have been the proper distance apart to line up with the factory pan.

That's out by quite a bit! By reworking just that channel and moving it over, won't the "rib" that is the length of the whole floor plan still be out by 3/8?

That is almost the whole piece I'm using that you see in the picture. I'm moving the rib over in the whole section.

Carl, I do not think Goodmark is a licensed dealer for GM parts anymore. I was talking to a GM rep and he said Goodmark lost the contract because of poor quality from offshore producers with your trunk pan being an example. They are using unapproved dyes. When a new part is produced the first 50 are sent to GM for quality control and then only 500 are sold from the first run so GM can check on customer satisfaction. I think Dynacorn is a licensed supplier now. I bought a side marker light for my 81 Camaro from this GM rep who vends only licensed approved repo parts and he had a Dynacorn repo lens and a Goodmark repo lens as an example to compare the differences. The Dynacorn had a very clear part number on the lens where the other part was very hard to read. Has anybody else heard about this about Goodmark?

Al

I believe I got this correct; GoodMark is now owned by Keystone. Keystone also now own Cross Canada. From my experience many of the Cross Canada repro parts are now GoodMark and usually are ware housed in the Kansa City. Turnaround on those parts is usually 2-3 weeks. Cross Canada now operates as Keystone

Dale, that makes sense because Keystone purchased our local supplier, Pro Body Parts and I know when I ordered this part they said it would come from Kansas City.

I have a Goodmark 1 piece floor pan in my 67 GTO and fit is perfect. The trunk 1 piece pan was Dynacorn and did not fit the NOS tail panel. The original did after re-checking so the Dynacorn panel was off and needed to be bent to weld on.

Bought 1/4's from cross Canada about 5 yrs ago said made in Tiwian, 1(right) had a nice sharp edge where it folded into the door jamb the other was tragic. The radius of the bad one was about 3/16-/1/4 so now I have to hammer the crap out of it or weld a bead on it. Haven't got to that stage on the car yet to see where the door needs to be. Bought a door skin from Goodmark yr1/2 ago and doesn't match up to orig fender where the center body line is, more welding!!! Have heard good and bad about all even AMD. Starting to think it's just a crap shoot. If I were you Carl, just section it, if your like me it'll drive you nuts just knowing it's there, even though no one else will notice.

I have brand new dynacorn front and rear bumpers, brackets and fuel tank, not sure what else, I'm happy with the quality of all the pieces.

hi,

there is a place called ''Classic2current''. they have quite an array of Pontiac sheet metal for full size. Also, check with 'Pontiac Paradise''. they too have a large inventory and they can direct you to where the're might be some. Ask for Les Kasten

good luck

Dan

Best reproduction body panel company - Have sold and used both Goodmark and AMD. Goodmark was sold to LKQ (Keystone Company) and the last pieces I have sold I had to return over half of the parts because of poor quality and fit. The AMD stuff I have used have fit well and are a thicker metal. AMD was started by people that had worked at goodmark. AMD is also approved GM and Mopar panel replacements, where Goodmark used to be but must have lost it. Also I have noticed that no matter what company some parts are identical and in the same packaging sold from different companies made overseas. http://www.yellowbullet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=595181

Goodmark quality gone down hill???  http://www.pro-touring.com/archive/index.php/t-67314.html

AMD has their own tooling, so their parts are not the same as Goodmark, they use thicker gauge steel than factory, lines and edges are nice and crisp, better fit and overall just better part,it's worth the extra $$

100% correct. When they originally started they sent bodies over there and flew floyd garretts [garrets muscle car museum] metal man to check fitment, then when they started production they sent him back to check random parts as they came off to assure the quality. I believe they are still doing that as they develop new parts.
That is why they are more expensive and well worth it

PS -  auto metal direct 770-967-0909 ask for allan or mike

Here's an off the wall question.
With GM (US) originally manufacturing the same model at various factories throughout the country they presumably stamped many of the floor pans, quarters etc at many locations. Obviously they didn't move 1 set of dies around so might there be variations in the original dies ( dies probably were made from drawings rather than from the same mold ).
Can this account for what Carl is finding?
I know I've experienced similar fit issues.

Someone told me that the dies were not the same all the way up to 69 and yet this pan is supposed to fit up that far. I'm betting if I get someone to measure a 69 pan that the ribs in it are the same as the repro, not the same as my original 66 pan. I think the companies just try to cover too many years with one part. If a guy changed the whole pan, he never would have noticed this I bet.

Good point about the multi fit.
