I got me 1935 Chevy Coupe

After an arduous search of over several years and badgering a fine gentleman for a year I have finally been able to get another 3 window coupe. No beauty queen but I'm sure a wash and wax will bring her back....................

or not

Current direction of the build will be a hotrod. It will opposite of the Canadian Pontiacs as I'll power this with an American Pontiac engine in a Chev.

I'll try to post some progress build pics as I go.

Comments and observations welcome.

I have made some progress on the coupe in the last few months and getting pretty close to having a roller.

I got this pile of parts in early December.

HPIM0972.JPG

and this a couple weeks back

HPIM0998.JPG

Tacked in the front cross member and then promptly cut an 1 1/2" out of the cross member and added the same to the spring hats/a-arm mount to effectively lower the front even more than just the 2" drop spindles.

HPIM0982.JPG

Tacked in a triangulated 4 bar and set the desired ride height and I think it looks pretty good.

HPIM0997.JPG

Also took 3 1/2" out of the roof to make sure the coupe was nothing but a hot rod.

Looking GREAT, always nice when shiny new parts show upnod.gif I think I see a carrier on the table? But no gears and looks like 57 housing ( think I see 57 written on it ). Is it a posi carrier, was thinking of putting one in my 57. Car has a great stance, keep pics coming!

.....now aren't you glad I found the car for you ? , man you are a better hotrodder than me. NICE work so far Eric. Glad to see you hard at it. I'll have to show Dave what you done to his car so far. You asked for comments, well here it is. Great choice on cars, it's not a Ford, very rare 3 window, odd choice for engine which I like....you didn't copy anyone or go with the norm. I see good engineering with the suspension and all. The top I would of left stock, or cut it maybe 2" if any, to me it looks a little low now......but it surely is going to have that " rod " look when done. Do you have a color picked yet ?

In order:

Hawkeye5766 - That is a posi unit and I'm re-using the 3.56:1 gear set that was in the 57 Mercury 9" rear. It looked brand new on the inside so no worries on re-using the crown and pinion. New bearings and seals just for good measure.

Johnny Ringo - I am very happy about you sending me to Dave, can't thank you enough. My current intent is just to get it on the road but long term is a late 80's colour that was called midnight sapphire with flames. Not completely decided on fenders or not. It would give the car a completely different vibe and right now I'm shooting for a car that looks like it needs a ticket just for intent.

427carl - I've had a couple of Pontiac blocks kicking around since I built my 70 GTO 18 or so years back. I didn't want cookie cutter for the engine and the Pontiac mill was a natural.

Thanks for the kind words.

If you watch the video where they have misc. cars and parts that 5 window is rite up front. It looks better there than what I remember.

They always do look better in pictures, and then you bring it home ...........

I might go to the auction too. I get back from Bolivia on the 24th. I live across the river from the sale.

Actually it's a Summit Racing in house brand. The case looks very nice, machining is very clean, the material has no pock marks, really looks like billet. I haven't popped it open yet to look at the internals as I'm a little apprehensive about loosing a spring or shim as I tend to be clumsy at the most inopportune moment. Overall looks good. The interference fit for the bearings seemed spot on as it took some pressure from the press to put them on.
