Carl, State laws making lap-sash seat belts compulsory on all new cars commenced in the late 60s and early 70s. They were probably an option on the 66.

Georgeous car,but if it was for sale in Canada Jim the siamese twin would be all over it!
Is the firewall reversed on a right hand drive?I would think so but have never asked.

My '65 has front seat belts only, which is legal. But if it is modified, safety items may need improving. I did notice that the middle belt in the back seat
has the original chrome buckle.

Nice car but I am not a fan of that dash. GM should have put in a little more time and effort in fitting a Pontiac dash.

Dale, I suspect this 66 has been retrimmed in vinyl. My 67 has cloth inserts in the body contact areas, but is otherwise vinyl, as you might just be able to see if you glance left. Most Australian models I've seen are like mine.

Mine is all vinyl. Cloth must have came in '67. And like your 8 point about being on the 'wrong side', we are getting lots of left hooks here. I was talking to a Mustang driver and if he was fighting with the other half the car stayed in the shed. It was to hard to see around the car in front without a good wing man/woman on that side of the car.

convertibles where always all vinyl with maybe leather in hi end cars such as Cadillacs. Cloth seats in convertibles usually didn't show up until the 1983 up Mustangs and then only in the base models

never seen a chevy dash in a Pontiac , but a noticed they used a previous years dash , same for the posty 66 novas s w with rhd , they sported a 65 dash in a 66 , wonder why ??

Just a guess but likely it was a money saving move. Design an RHD dash and use it as many years as possible rather than all new R & D for another design.

1. when parrallel parking you can just open the door and see how far you are from the sidewalk.

2. going down the highway no one would ever wave to you cause they see no driver.

3. going through the fast food joint and the speaker order thing is on the wrong side.

4. cop pulls you over and when he walks up to the car no one is there.

5. no more watching out when opening the driver door parked on the side of the road watching out not to get hit.

6. driving into parkades and the ticket machine is on the wrong side of the car.

7. taking a drivers test in one would be fun for the instructor.

8. forgetting the gear shifter is on the left and you make a turn to signal to the right and slam it in reverse or park.

For 1964, the Impala was slightly restyled, reverting to a more rounded, softer look. The signature taillight assembly had an "upside-down U" shaped aluminum trim strip above the taillights, but the lights themselves were surrounded by a body-colored panel. The 409-cubic-inch (6.7 L) returned as the big-block option, as well as the 2X4 carburetor setup for the 425 horsepower motors. SS models continued to feature the engine-turned aluminum trim. Rooflines were carried over from '63 unchanged. Back-up lights were standard.^[13]

Right hand drive cars were made at GM's Oshawa plant in Canada and often shipped overseas in kit form for assembly in South Africa and New Zealand. The RHD cars Chevy or equivalent Pontiac (built on Chevrolet frames and using Chevy engines in Canada) all used a RHD version of the LHD 1961 Pontiac dashboard.

when i was a kid i would drive down the highway in my 66 Biscayne sitting in the passenger seat stepping on the gas pedal with my left foot and holding the steering wheel with my left hand , that alway s scared the sh***t all arround .........
