Dust shield (a-arm water sheild) staple install


Anyone got a method for installing dust shield on the inner fenders(A-arm water shields) whatever you want to call them

There must be a special tool for bending the staples over

Oh ya,  the inners are already painted too, that sucks and will make it harder

a good trick is to also contact cement the dust shield into place before you install the staples. It stays where you put it and makes the staple installation a snap. Just drill thru the existing staple holes in the inners and on thru the rubber, then install the staples. Don't go overboard on the glue and it can't be seen when you are finished.

Problem Solved!! Used.060 Galvinized Wire(actualy Electric Fencing Wire)

Maybe the problem is that the staples that came with the kit are stainless and amost a spring steel,  they are super hardened and impossible to bend,  maybe i should just use mechanics wire or someting softer.

I used black weather stripping glue on mine last time to hold before putting in staples and worked like charm.
Just a few dabs here and there plus black doesn't show up badly.
As for bending over just pushed over with screw drive as mentioned above and to get really flat used a body
dolley edge on front side and hammer on back side and touched up were need with model (fine) brush and paint

The problem with mechanics wire would be rust. That stuff seems to rust instantly when it gets wet.

I used 1/16 aluminum tig rod on my 57 dust sheild worked great and still havent rusted 20 yrs later(gota luv non ferrous metals )could also use copper depending on what color you want.Problem is you have to make the yourself ,but at my .25$ hr no brainer.

         yes   but they would not be Original  disbelief   gotta keep it perfectly stock  or the Cruise Night Lawyers (know it alls) will "get you"

I borrowed some stainless wire that a friend had,cut it and made it look like a staple and pushed it through the two holes in the inner fender.

When it's cut,bent and tapped with a hammer inside the well well,it looks good enough for most.

i got it solved,  the POS staples that came in the kit were hard and impossible to bend, also so brittle that once they bent, they snapped off.

I had some stainless 3/8 staples for my staplegun,  worked perfect, easy to bend, easy to punch thru the rubber, and they are full stainless,  they are flat instead of round,  but almost nobody will notice.

Take the staples and put them thru the exsisting holes,the ones that come with guards. Have youre beer buddy hold his beer in one hand and one staple at a time position and push the staple thru the flap,then get buddy to put his beer down and use a flat surface like a hammer or a body dolly and I use a big flat blade and a hammer and at the base where the staple pops thru just bend in over,and just keep moving along,the hardest part is getting the frickin staples thru the old staple holes I found,it's easy.Don't use bailing wire because then you will get the nickname "hamburger" and you don't want that.Use the stock staple,it's a bit of a bitch,but it looks the best just the way GM intended it to be.

Pretty quiet,been thinking of changing occupation,or do a bit of something else too.Leaning towards tugboats again.Sick of waiting for forever to get paid from all the guys that have more money than anyone else I know.bleh The positive spending lots of time with family and been getting stuff done around the home.My boys really coming on strong,big improvements.
