January 2014 Feature Car

It is my pleasure to feature this stunning 1966 Acadian SD L79 clone as our January 2014 feature car which belongs to Herb Patton (a.k.a 4Barin). Herb started with a clean 6cyl car and transformed it into the muclecar you see here. Herb gives us the details:

In April 2002 I contacted Carl Stevenson to ask him if he could help me find a 1966 or 1967 Acadian. I decided to make the trek from Nebraska to Manitoba, pulling an empty trailer in hopes of bringing one home.  We headed out for Carl's house and went car hunting.

The only thing we could find that appealed to me during that short trip was a 1967 Beaumont. It was a project car, minus powertrain.  It was born a Custom with a bench seat, 327 4 speed, butternut yellow.  I came home with that car but didn't give up on the idea of buying an Acadian. Not much later Carl called me to say that in Winnipeg he had found a 1966 Canso SD with a 6 cylinder Powerglide. It was completely restored from the ground up, a very nice restoration . So, April 10th 2002 we headed for Canada again, and I brought home the SD.

I located a complete L79 with a 4 speed and 12 bolt Nova/Acadian differential with 342 gears. A powertrain  transplant was on its way.

I also bought a 1966 Nova with factory air to put into the SD. Everything from the firewall forward was removed, powder coated, rebuilt and reinstalled. A new floor hump was installed to accept the four speed.

I took it for it's first cruise on my birthday October 12th 2002.

I'm loving January even more now!

This car is even more beautiful in person. I'm happy to see it up there!

Way to go Herb, and thanks for doing this Todd.

Very nice, I am sure that would be a pleasure to drive especially if you are in a hurry. It was your place then that Carl Stevenson was trying to get me to stop in at when I was in Nebraska this fall, obviously my loss. I was getting tired and had almost run out of money so had to head for home. Congrats on it being at the top of the page.

If I remember right, Herb had a bit of fun with it the first time he showed up at a local Pontiac only show.

I always loved the nice clean simple lines on those cars and the L79 4 speed combo must be so much fun. I wish I had been in the new car market in 1966. I would have bought about 10 of em.

And they don't take up much room in the garage like my b body barge.

beautiful!
