Parts Car for 1962

I go this morning to look at a number of potential parts cars for my 62 Parisienne convertible. The fellow has a 62 2 door hardtop, a 63 ragtop and a couple other 63 or 64 ragtops that are sort of mangled. Not sure which will be best. I think the 2 door hardtop has most of what I need except a convertible rear seat. If the front seat is thundered, I might aim for the 63 or 64 rag with the best seats, and look for other bits later. If I had more room I'd likely buy two, but such is life. Perhaps they'll all be unsuitable and I'll get to put my loot back in the bank !!

Do 63 and 64 Parisienne seats even fit a 62?

Wish me luck :)

Well, I bought the 62 Parisienne 2 door hardtop. Cost me a big chunk of change (a grand), but maybe I can get some coin back from the parts I don't need. The fellow threw in the rear seat back section from a 63 Parisienne convertible for the same price. Now, if the car actually arrives, I'll be in business. Only thing I'm missing now is the rear seat bottom section. I just happen to know someone that has such a piece saved from a parts car years ago.

1961-62 seat tracks are different than 1963-64-although the actual seats are the same and the tracks will interchange. Remember a rear seat from ANY GM fullsize convertible from 1961-64 will be the same and same goes for the front-aside from trim.

Some great parts there Dave! That steering wheel might be very nice, since it's been protected.

The car is past it's due date (the window sticker says it expired Dec. 17th. 1981).biggrin

Hi Dave, I 'm looking at your pictures and noticed the knob beside the L/H radio knob. It looks original but my 62 convertible along with a spare instrument panel do not have this item. Do you know what it is for?

I had a 64 interior in my 62..The pattern is different though....The door panels can be made to fit. The top corner under the vent windows has to be trimmed back

Looks like it has an S on the knob, and maybe three positions. I'm guessing it's for the front and rear speaker selection.

Hey poncho62, that black interior looks really sharp against the red exterior.

Thanks, I was wondering about the front & rear speaker selection. When I removed the rear seat, however, there were no wires going to the rear speaker This is the first time I've seen this switch.

I checked the convertible. It's got the same switch as well. I'll make sure I don't toss out the spare.

Another thing I noticed, the parts car has a big round canister attached to the driver's side inner fender. It's about eight inches tall and maybe four inches across, with rubber tubes coming out of it. Anyone know if it's a factory item?      I thought it looked like a remote oil filter, but it was getting dark and the hood hinges are in the trunk, so I didn't get a good look as I was trying to hold up the hood.

Removed the bumper from the parts car and installed it on the rag top this morning. Lots of little dots on it, but looks like it should clean up nicely with some elbow grease and polish. Sitting for decades, so it's pretty filthy. Updated my avatar to show it off. Think I might sell the rechromed rear bumper I've got in storage. If I do, I'll list it in the appropriate section.
Still don't know what that round thing is in the previous box. Another day perhaps......:)

It uses a roll of toilet paper inside. They worked excellent. I still use it on my truck and have one in my 58 Impala convertible.

Very cool. I assume it was an aftermarket add-on, not a factory, or dealer type option. I'll take a closer look at it when I get more time. Thanks Johnny.
