Fixing the uglies ( Advise welcome)

Hey everyone

Well as it seems winter has finally shown itself in the lower mainland, I decided it would be a perfect day for a post.

As the car was leaking water badly the first order of business was to re and re the windshield, It had been replaced at some point, but was installed with the wrong sealer. I took it to my old boss's  Broco autoglass shop in rootin tootin Newton. If anyone needs any glass work done, I highly recommend them. Between the three guys that work there they have around sixty years of experience.

This was gonna be a quick and dirty re and re as I only had a few hours to do this. I used a special Olfa knife to remove the glass. Once out, I was pleased to see the rust was minimal and just hit it with a scotch lock grind disc and a quick prime and install. I will pull all the glass at some point, probably when it gets painted.

nice face, lol.

Next thing on the list is to replace the side view mirror, it's been replaced at some point with something that was made in japan.

I assume that I need a 65 Chevelle mirror with out the bow tie emblem. If anyone knows of a source please share.

I also need some advice on getting the seat re-done and also new carpet

As you can see the back panel is heat embossed and in very good condition, I am hoping to find someone the repair the seat as I am pretty sure this upholstery isn't available as a kit. If any body has a shop or person they can recommend I would appreciate it

I will also replace the carpet, but not until I fix the leaks first.

Thanks everyone

Nice to find the windshield channel in such nice shape I bet. What a great car to work on.

And not to derail, but I always hear the BC guys say "What's snow" when I post pictures of a prairie winter... Busted!

Busted indeed...but the truth is that this is the second time we've had snow all winter. Tomorrows drive to work should be a treat.

The car is in amazing shape, I will post some pics of the floor when I can, they look brand new.

I love seeing pictures of 60's cars with original metal in nice shape still.

Hot Rods and Classics in Chilliwack had the mirrors in stock a year or so ago and they were without the bow tie. They will also have carpet and we also have an excellent sponsor here with NOS at the top of this page who carries carpet plus many other things.

Hey toad. Saw pics of your car on fb last night and got me thinking of my car so I came on here to dream a little and low and behold here you are. Glad to see you finally got your wagon. Car looks great, wish I was closer to give you a hand.

A little update.

Went to Bow tie Autoparts in Langley and purchased a mirror. They were very helpful and pleasant to deal with, will definitely go back.

Install took a couple of hours because the drivers door never had a factory mirror and I had to drill holes in the door to install. Ended up removing the vent and door glass so I wouldn't screw it up. Had to eyeball the location by looking at pictures on the internet, lol. Didn't take pics but will when I get a chance.

As you saw in the previous pics I also removed the front seat and carpeting because of the water leaks, glad I did as water had found its way under the sound deadener. Don't want to brag but these floors are mint. Enjoy the pics.

Hi Bob, aka Freds68sd. Post some pics of your car. These guys would love to see your SD.

Your allowed to brag when your floor looks that good. Going to look great with new carpet and upholstery on the seats.
