My 57 Pontiac featured in The Pontiac Registry as March Cover Car.


I am happy to say that my Canadian 1957 Pontiac Pathfinder Deluxe sedan in featured in a large American Pontiac site, known as The Pontiac Registry. My 57 is the March cover car and i could not be happier with the result of how they presented a Canadian Pontiac on their site. Larry the gentleman that runs the site actually asked me a couple of months ago, if i was interested in doing it. No need to twist my arm because i am already there. He was even able to clean up some of my photos that were of questionable use. I am ecstatic over this honor and thought i should share this with the Pontiac brotherhood. The page that 427 Carl posted is not the actual Pontiac of the month article. That was the introduction of the Canadian Pontiac's page that started last January. The article of my 57 Pontiac is in the Monthly cover car area of the site for this month of March. I am not sure if none members can access that part of the site. If not then there is a trial membership that is free and  you can do everything on the site during the free trial period. You click on ON LINE MAGAZINE from the home page and then click CAR OF THE MONTH FEATURE then you choose what month and year you would like to see. I encourage everyone to join and this does not infringe on Todd's great Canadian Poncho site because it is a very different kind of site. The Pontiac Registry is obviously American Pontiac's with mention of a number of Canadian Pontiac's sprinkled through out the site. The site is more about Pontiac history. Everything is very professionally done and like Canadian Poncho there is a life time of stuff to see on there. Check it out.  The Pontiac Registry.com  Cheers. George.

1957 Pontiac Pathfinder Deluxe sedan. My name is George and i am a new member of this wonderful Pontiac site. My Canadian 1957 Pontiac Pathfinder Deluxe sedan was built in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada and was one of just under 49,000 57 Pontiac's built that year, that included exports to countries like England and Australia. My 57 Pontiac was originally sold in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, which is right across the country from where i am in Milton, Ontario, Canada. The car came back to Ontario in 1979. I purchased the car in Omemee, Ontario in 1996 and finished the original restoration in 1998. My car has the original 261 cu. in. inline six cylinder motor that was the base engine. You could order a 283 Chev V-8 for extra cost. The transmission is the base three speed stick on the column but you could order a Powerglide automatic for extra cost. The car as you may know is a Chevy is disguise. Everything mechanical has been rebuilt or replaced and it is all Chevrolet. The body was very solid being a western car and only required very minimal body work. Everything was done to this car and 18 years later it still looks as good as the day the car was finished. My model was the mid level model, like a 210 Chevy. There was the Laurentian above it and the base Pathfinder below my Pathfinder Deluxe. I have loaded my 57 down with many original factory and dealer accessories. My dad had a car like this one from 1959 to 1970 and i suppose that is why i have a soft spot for these cars. Here in Canada at the time you could order a "real" American Pontiac from a dealer but they were very expensive. Our Canadian Pontiac's were just slightly above the cost of a Chevrolet. For the extra cost you got a lot more car than the Chevy and that is why they sold so well here in Canada. For many years here in Canada Pontiac out sold Chevrolet, especially in the 1960's. Hi Larry and George; I am new to the club and looking forward to good times. I just found a 1980 grand prix with 70k. it is an SJ T-Top in original condition, as in not messed with. Original paint and factory emissions still work. The only disappointment it is too old for normal suppliers and too new for specialty suppliers. Oh well as an old mechanic I will just have to use old school tricks. Could use a rear bumper if someone has a spare.

Congrats on the "new" GP. Those downsized Grand Prixs after '77 are dynamite looking cars, and that entire GM lot probably the last of the good looking- and rear wheel drive- cars. Look for the hobby market to really grab them up in the coming years.

Didn't know that "CLUB" was still going??? I belonged to that for awhile after "bailing" out of POCI & have talked to larry a long time ago, seemed like a "nice" guy. Glad to see they are recognizing the Cdn. cars now. Think Larry did an article on my 64 2+2 way back when!!! Pete

 Pete this is not POCI, this is Larry's own gig known as The Pontiac Registry. I as well gave up on POCI because it was mostly a GTO and Firebird club. Larry is a real decent guy to talk to and there is no denying he is a real serious Pontiac guy. George.

As mentioned before my first car (1963) was a 57 Pontiac  4 door 283/4 bbl/3 speed.......
...beige with copper top and copper side accent......what great memories....

Nice to see your car being appreciated south of the border........

 --- unfortunately not....no...my Dad bought the car in May 1962 as a second driver........my brother (then 20

and at U of T) commandeered the car and during the semesters we almost never saw him or the car......

...in spring 63 he took off to Europe and left the 57 in the driveway with starter problems.

A local mechanic told me to loosen the starter and then tighten it up again.........being very skinny (back then)

I was able to crawl under the car in the driveway and get the starter tightened up..........when that thing

started you could probably have heard me hootin' for miles....biggrin....drove that car everywhere and even raced it at Niagara

in H/S running a high 16 sec.........finally sold it in fall 64 for $500. and bought a 62 Healey but that is another story........
