Brought the Beaumont out


Well i had the day off and thought i'd get the Beaumont out on such a nice day.  I hooked the battery up and got her running.  Got her out onto the driveway and did my look around.  I found the drivers side tail light out so i replaced it but still out so something else is up.  Worked when i put it to bed in the fall.  The other thing was a small pool under the car...either brake or transmission fluid, i have to check the levels of each to find out which.  Otherwise everything has held up well over the long winter.

It's common for a powerglide in storage to overflow out the seal at the bottom of the dipstick tube Randy. It could be that if it's red.

same with the bulb often tempermental going into the housing on them

Yeah it was red, and i did get the fluid changed last fall, i'll keep an eye on it. The bulb came out easy and went back in no problem, replaced the passenger side last year and no problems. I'll play with it a bit.

A test lite will tell the story real quick. That way you know if you have socket issues or power issues.

By chance is the ground clip bad on the socket? I know the B bodies have major issues with that.

As they say, ask me how I know...

I see the brake light is working but not the signal back there.

Sounds like it's possibly a signal switch issue then because they both use the same filament in an 1157 bulb. That tells you the wire to the socket and the connection in the socket for that filament is good. The other filament in the same bulb does just the tail light.

Thanks for the info Carl. Is the signal switch on these cars supposed to normally cancel off when you turn? Mine has not so i knew i had a problem but the light has worked up to this point.

Yes it should but the wiring problem should be unrelated to the cancelling.

If you know anyone who might have a spare you can use to test, it's easy to do. Just unplug the harness 1/2 way down the steering column. You can do this without having to remove the steering wheel.

A few wraps of teflon tape , coated with some non-hardening sealant , will stop a trans tube from leaking .
