I've grabbed many pieces off a 70 Laurentian there over the past 10 years.   The owner passed away suddenly last summer, and they've only been open M-F since.    I'm hoping to make one last trip there, but when I checked a month or so ago there was still plenty of snow around.  I know there's a 70 Impala there that I need to get a tail-pipe bracket off of.

THERE IS A '69 427 IMPALA THERE WITH A SMALL BLOCK IN IT. LOTS OF OLD IRON IN THE BACK OF THAT PLACE. LOTS OF LITTLE HIDDEN TREASURES IN THE BUSES AND OUT BUILDINGS AS WELL. SAD TO SEE IT GO...

I called Den's Repairs late today, and talked to Tony's widow.   She said she's working out a deal with a crusher, and once the papers are signed all the inventory becomes property of the crusher.   She said the deal may be done as early as Monday, so get there fast - and they're closed Saturday.

I'm hoping to zip up there right after work on Friday, there's a couple small things I want from the Laurentian (most of that car is in my garage already) plus the 70 Impala right behind it.   Re the 69 Impala, I think I know the one.  It used to be up towards the top of the hill, but was moved down to the bottom a few years ago.  Not sure if it was a 427, as it doesn't have the 1/4" return fuel line.  The grass is about 4' high around it during the summer.

Similar to what happened with Rustic Auto in Plattsburg ... they got the entire police fleet for the surrounding area, hundreds of mid 80 caprices .... far too many to hang on to, so they brought in a mobile crusher and smashed the lot in one afternoon. My parts inventory went from heroic to nada overnight.

THE ONE I'M THINKING OF WAS MISSING THE FRONT MARKER LIGHTS/EMBLEMS. I ALMOST WALKED RIGHT BY WHEN I NOTICED THE 427 OUTLINE IN THE FADED PAINT. LOOKED AT THE COWL TAG, AND SURE ENOUGH, LS1. THERE WAS A LOT OF SNOW WHEN I SAW IT SO DID NOT GET A GOOD OVERALL LOOK. MY BUDDY TOOK PICTURES WHICH I BELIEVE I POSTED ON THIS SITE SOMEWHERE.

ANY IDEA HOW OLD THIS YARD IS/WAS?

We were talking about it at our Rodders meeting(supper) last night, Den has been there for many years, cannot remember when but there is also a sad story to this episode that I won't get into but yes it will be all gone and the parts also from what the guys were saying.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's right by where I'll be later today and I'll take a quick look.  Lorna said there's still snow and water beneath it, so it might be tough slugging through everything.

Well it wasn't a very fruitful journey.   When I called today, Lorna said to have good rubber boots as there's 6" of water beneath the snow.  I ran out at lunch and grabbed some rubber boots from the local Marks Work Wearhouse.    Upon driving north I saw there was still quite a bit of snow, much more than what we still have in Calgary.

To make a long story short, I had to walk through waist deep snow just to get to the 70 Laurentian, and the snow was getting in the top of my boots.  I grabbed the steering box bolts, then tried to figure out how to get to the 70 Impala directly behind it.  I figured climbing over the car was the best bet, as snow between the cars was almost 4' deep.  I was trying to get a tailpipe hanger off the 70, but it was just too awkward, and I didn't have my sockets with me, just wrenches.  I abandoned that idea.    The 69 Impala was only about 40' away, but through waist deep snow - not worth the journey.

I started the walk back through the deep snow, but figured there just had to be a better way.  I got to a row of cars, then hopped from car to car until I only had about a dozen steps to shallow snow.   My feet were absolutely frozen, but I was able to make it back to the office.  No charge for the 3 steering box bolts.  I bet a good pint of water came out of each boot - good thing I had spare jeans, socks and shoes with me.

Sounds like it is going to take A LOT of extra work on their part to get those cars out of the snow and to the crusher next week. They should wait a while.

I grew up about 7 miles from Den's repair and used to get lots of part from there when I first start driving. Also sent some cars there to rest. Will miss Tony and Den's Repair. I hope I can make it back out before all the cars are crushed.
