GM 12 Bolt Differential

Hello

I am looking for information regarding a vintage 1966  GM 12 Bolt Differential N 389 4939,  Series 3 Carrier

I would like to buy a new set of spider and axles gears, and I was wondering if anyone has a GM parts books of that era.

If so,  would it be possible to provide me the GM parts numbers for gears and back washers. The local GM dealer does not list by part number first.

They look at the year first then the model of car, unfortunately they don't go back that far.

I know there are aftermarket stuff out there, but I don't have enough experience to understand quality from junk!

The posi unit appears good at this point of the evaluation, I plan to have more experienced technical help reassemble the unit.

I have looked through R R & P and D T S web sites, and I hear locally that they both have quality and not so good quality stuff?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Dale

This may not be in your backyard, but he's got quality stuff:  www.tomsdifferentials.com

He's just outside Sandpoint, Idaho - relocated there from California 20-30 years ago, had been in business since 1975.   I bough the innards for a 2 series posi carrier from him, but I've never had it set up.

I would appreciate that Carl,  the local GM Stock guy told me that if I had the exact part number, it may be possible that they may have it ?

I have to try

Thanks

Dale

Hi Dale, where are you located? Most builders like to use the parts they trust so if you are going to have someone set it up for you, best let them get the parts so they will warranty the job. Just my 2 cents

Hi Guys

I am from NB, the Tech guy that I will ask is reputable, and is known as one of the best, not the issue.

Furthermore, my Tech dose not buy parts,  he is fussy about the merchandize thought .
