Just wondering if a 454 would fit into a 64 Parisienne with minimal modifications required. What would be needed? I am considering to take a look at this car, but would like to know if I can get a big block in there easily...
Will bolt right in with the 350 mounts. Hood clearance will be fine, radiator will bolt up,but you may want to go with a 4 row radiator.
You may have to install headers for the exhaust ,but I'm sure you can get the stock manifolds hooked up to work.
I do recommend using one of the smaller high out put starters. The stock starter will over heat from the exhaust manifolds if you run headers, and make it hard to start.
If you have power brakes, you may have to change your power booster to a 7" long type because of clearance with the valve covers.
If you have an automatic your good to go.I did that swap on my 64' Impala back in 1970 with a 396
I figured since it has a 305 the 454 would just bolt in but I don't have experience with 64's.
Carl is right, my GMC farm truck 454 in my LeMans blows real muscle cars away, if you drop a g note on a pick up or motor home that is running you will have more than enough to make skid marks.

Mike, if your not mechanically experienced & have the place & tools for this you may end up ruinning a good car!!!!Engine will "bolt" in but from there on your going to have to fabricate lots!! Throttle linkage, exh. def. won't "bolt" up then theres the matter of frt. suspension will be "taxed' with the extra weight [IMOP} If you buy the car JUST enjoy it & drive it. I'm not having any luck on selling the 64 Cat. other that KIJIJI IDIOTS that CAN"T READ!!!!

Buy the time Mike buys the 64 unknown car and adds a 454 He would wish he bought your car A proven Hot Rod
Mike doesn't want a 64 really, like all young bucks he's anxious to get the finish line fast and doesn't yet know the value of taking it slow and easy for more a satisfying result and getting what he really wants.

I will agree and say that is very true! Yet, to add, Mike doesn't really know what Mike wants!
"Will a 454 fit into a 1964 Pontiac Parisienne (easily)??"
I wouldn't say easily but it's not a really hard swap either.
The engine itself will bolt right in but I'm not sure about the exhaust manifolds.
I had a 62 Impala that someone had put a big block in, but it had headers. I've heard that headers were hard to find but that was a few years ago, I wouldn't be surprised if somebody is making them now.
There are always a few small things you run into with a swap like this, like the fan shroud should be cut down a bit and possible clearance issues with the power brake booster.
As Brian said, those cars came with 409's and they are pretty much the same size as a big block Chevy. You don't have to dent the firewall or cut into the frame.
Hedman still makes headers for this swap in the 58 to 64 chevy part number 68180. I would think since they share the same frame as the Canadian Pontiac that they would fit. Still in Summit and Jegs web site.
I went incognito on Impala sites and got the lowdown, tons of Big Block 454 and 572`s in 64 Impalas out there and the swap is easy peasy for the 64. Virtually identical to any big block swap in a Canadian poncho. All the cautions already mentioned about exhaust manifolds headers, throttle linkage and radiator apply. Engine mounts are same as small block and there is ample room since 409 is pretty much the same block.
If Mike gets serious I`ll figure out the exhaust and linkage problems although most guys are saying standard V8 linkage works its only when the 230 is yanked in favour of 454 that issues crop up.

Thanks Ray for the help in advance!!
Out of curiosity, is there hood clearance issues with anything over a 502 CU In motor for a 64 and a 66 Pontiac? I prefer to use stock hoods.
I would'nt be to concerned about hood clearance. The early big block cars used short water pumps so the matching alternator and power steering brackets are needed if the 454 long water pump won't fit. The car already has a three speed trans. so that could be reused. The drive shaft and rear end is the next thing to look at when adding the torque of the big block. The rear is held in using only three control arms where the 65 and up big block cars had four and a 12 bolt rear. Next is a brake upgrade to stop it. Barry
Go online and search old road tests for Chevelle SS454 or Impala 454 and see what they get, probably 6.5 to 8 seconds. Most Camry's are quicker than our old muscle cars.
Just buy my LS1 2000 Camaro conv and be done with it runs high 10's at the drags 0-60 in 3.5 seconds 27 mpg and the top goes down for 1/2 of what a old stinky 60's dog
I offered up my 66 GP 396 4 speed last fall and Mike never replied. I thought it was a great deal, especially when I look at what it will cost to buy a $5,000 car and do a 454 conversion on it.
But, distance becomes an issue, and as well, not everyone likes the 66 GP. You love 'em or you hate 'em!
