1968 Poncho 3916321 385hp 427 Block $900

Remember that 427 that was sitting under my bench?  The one that turned out to be one of the 17 or 19 built in 1968 for Cdn-Ponchos?  Because its a factory Pontiac 427, I've decided it should go into a Poncho project rather than some old Impala.

Here is what I know about the block:

  1. All machining and Prep was done by Jack Mezzomo at Pro Speed and Custom Engines in Burnaby.
  2. Casting number is 3916321 with IJ code stamping = Parisienne 385hp automatic.  2 bolt mains
  3. Vin code starts with a "7"
  4. Casting date is H-13-7 = October 13 1967
  5. Machine work includes, bore, hone to 40 over, new frost plugs and cam bearings
  6. Block had two water jacket cracks (see pics).  Jack had these welded and pressure tested not once but twice.
  7. According to Jack this block is ready to assemble.

I'm into it for $900.  May be willing to move a little or would look at trades?

I do not have a crank, but I do have some rods, sheet metal, 1968 dated heads and intake, etc, if you wanted to make a package.

Send me a PM if interested.

That is a very good deal on that block. It is the perfect date code for my Beaumont which was built on October 31 1967. With a little restamping I could have a 1 of 1 factory SD427 Beaumont. :D Good luch with the sale. It shouldn't last long at that price.

Thanks for the vote of confidence James.  I'm hoping this will go to a good home.

X2. I wish that block was available when I rebuilt my 396 last year. Very cool indeed!

Nice score for whom it goes to. Even to just own one would be nice!

Jacket crack welding can be done no issue on these iron blocks? No idea...Just curious, looks like a very good fix. Is it a common repair?

I used to throw out blocks that had cracks - any cracks.  But apparently now this is a no brainer process for the pros.  The original blocks are simply too valuable to scrap.

As a farmer friend in Montana pointed out the engines in their farm equipment are huge bucks and he said  - hell if I threw out every block that cracked - we'd go broke!

Jack had a shop out in Surrey do the repair and pressure check it - then since I was still nervous he checked it again.  He is confident of these welds and you can hardly see them.

not sure if they welded it or stitched it. We stitch them here with great results. find the end of the crack, drill a hole, tap threads in hole and thread in a special plug. Next drill another hole beside it close enough that you drill into the side of the first plug, thread and plug this hole then repeat again to you reach the end of the crack. Grind off the top of plugs and you are done

FEX EX gound. That's your best bet and they will deliver pretty much to your door.

Ask Greyhound for a quote. I've used them for large shipments with no issues.

I've used Consolidated Fastfrate a few times, including shipping a motor from Winnipeg to Calgary, and a transmission from Montreal to Calgary.

Have DaveJ pallet it for you, and best to box it in, and deliver it to a Consolidated Fastfrate location.   They can ship it to their location in Toronto, and pick it up there.
