1967 RHD Pontiac Parisienne (Aust.delivered)

Hi all,

I am new to this forum. I am currently restoring a 1967 Pontiac Parisienne 4 door hard top sedan.. It is Australian RHD delivered vehicle. It has the original 327 engine combined with the original  Powerglide transmission. I have had it for over 25 years and have slowly been putting it back together. Until recently, it was my everyday driver and now has been relegated to weekend driving and long trips. At the moment, I am currently rebuilding the doors. I have sourced all the rubbers and seals and now looking at replacing or rebuilding the door panels. I was wondering if there are any reproduction door panels available in Canada? I have included a photograph of the LH front door panel showing the style I am interested in.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Martin

There are no reproductions available, especially for the 4-door variety.

Your panels don't look bad at all. If it were me I would start by a through & gentle cleaning. I would not soak them though, as it would ruin the backing. Even small cracks can be repaired. If there is fading on the vinyl you can use SEM spray dye after proper cleaning, plus the use of SEM adhesion promoter. The vinyl must be properly cleaned, and there can be NO TRACE of anything like Armor All or any other silicone-based preservative.

There are things you can try to restore the plastic chrome pieces, but mostly it would involve removing & cleaning, followed by the application of some modeler's foil (the stuff modelers use to "chrome" their plastic parts. Today there is also a kind of spray-on chrome that can be applied, followed by some clear coat.

The carpeted section could just be cleaned with some upholstery cleaner. Typically they don't fade in that area, but if it is it can also be dyed.

Thanks for the replies and advice.
It was a bit of a long shot to see if there was any chance of reproduction door panels, especially for a 4 door hard top. The left hand side door panels are quite good but the right hand side panels will require a fair bit of surgery. Things tend fade a bit quicker over here, hence the faded carpet. I got that door panel off a wreck some years ago. I shall keep you posted of my progress.

Welcome aboard Moons

I had a similar problem when I was restoring my 66 Parisienne 2 dr hdtp.  I just stumbled upon SMS Auto Fabrics in Oregon. I sent them a picture of what I was looking for and in a matter of minutes they emailed back a picture of the exact panels that I was in need of. Give them a try they may just be able to help. Look forward to see some pictures of your project.

Thank you for your very warm welcome everyone. I have holidays coming up soon and I will get some photos of the car hopefully in the national capital. Thanks for advice on the door panels Cameron. I will give it ago when I get a few of the other jobs out of the way. I took it for a shake down run after aligning the doors and front end panels and will spend time to fine tune the gaps. ( I am convinced that aligning panels is one of the dark arts) Anyway I will keep you posted of my progress and will have plenty of questions to ask to draw up on your collective expertise.

For the chrome areas I've had decent luck with adhesive mylar tape. You can scrub and redye all you like but the chrome is hard to deal with unless you're going to remove it and get a plastic plater to fix it.

I got mine from "TheTapeDepot.com"

Metalized Mylar (Length: 72 YARDS - 216 FEET - 66 METERS - Individual Roll
Size / Quantity: 1/2 inch - 12.7MM - 1 Individual Roll
Color: Silver)

Dave,
thanks for your reply and advice. I will see if I can track a similar product locally. I was going to take the car down to Canberra (3 hour drive) but in my prelim road trip check I noted a leaking wheel cylinder. I will sort it when I get back and I will organise a photo shoot more locally for the promised pictures.
